High demand leading to increased milk production

Stanislaus County offers an abundance of agriculture offerings with dairy routinely a top producer and last year, both milk and alternative milks saw a marked increase in consumption among consumers. 

The second-highest valued commodity in the 2020 Stanislaus County Agriculture Report was milk and it contributed more value than it did in 2019. It was an increase in value by $128 million compared to 2019. Milk accounts for 20 percent of the county’s total commodity value, while it accounted for 17 percent in 2019.

Children’s Home of Stockton opens transitional housing program to tackle youth homelessness

Youth homelessness continues to be a problem in Stockton, with about 150 youth self-identifying as homeless.

A new program has opened in Stockton to help tackle that problem.

The Children’s Home of Stockton has opened the Catalyst, a transitional housing program for transition-age youth providing services to unsheltered youth ages 18-24, helping them become independent through mentorship, guidance and support.

Turlock golf edges out Enochs to win league championship

in Sports

Turlock High golf was able to hold off Enochs High to win the CCAL Championship. This is the Bulldogs first championship in three years, before that they won 15 straight league titles.

The CCLA Championship was held at the Turlock and Golf Country Club on Monday. Going into the tournament, Turlock had a two-point lead over the second-place team Enochs. Therefore, if Enochs won the tournament and the Bulldogs took second, both schools would be co-champions. Turlock was able to pull out a narrow victory and are in sole possession in first place in the league.

Harder Pushes For Focus On Wildfire Smoke

Earlier this month, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) asked the Biden administration to focus specifically on the health impacts of wildfire smoke as they launch a new whole-of-government initiative on climate and equity. The administration’s recent announcement highlighted new ways families in the Valley can access information on climate including up to the minute tracking of wildfires and the smoke they cause.

Ordinance permitting downtown party bikes in the works

Pedicabs could soon take to the streets of downtown Turlock following a split-vote decision by the City Council on Monday, who gave staff the go-ahead to create an ordinance for the popular party bikes. 

The pedal-operated vehicles serve as taxis in some countries, but in America and especially in California, pedicabs have been transformed into a source of entertainment for those celebrating birthdays, bachelor parties and more by offering a unique way to stop at a city’s best bars and restaurants.

Turlock looks to reduce waste and become more sustainable

October is Sustainability Month and many sectors of Turlock are trying to do their part to reduce waste. From local farms to education institutions, many Turlock residents are adopting new practices to be more sustainable.

Big Tree Organic Farms processes all their products with careful consideration of sustainability and environmental stewardship, stating they believe “that the most delicious products are the ones closest to nature.”

Drunk Driver Arrested After Crashing Head On With Other Vehicle

At about 7:21 pm Friday evening, a Turlock Police officer in the 1300 block of South Washington Road, Turlock, came upon a vehicle collision with injuries in the roadway.

Two vehicles were involved. One was a silver Acura sedan and the other was a silver Chevrolet pickup truck.

City Council to decide Turlock’s new districts with public input

After receiving few applications from residents to serve on the City’s Advisory Redistricting Commission, the Council will draw new district lines with help from the community during several upcoming public hearings. 

The boundaries for Turlock’s four City Council districts are redrawn every 10 years using new census data, reflecting how local populations have changed and ensuring each district is substantially equal in population.

Turlock High takes over downtown to celebrate homecoming

The only undefeated football team in Turlock High history was in attendance as the Bulldogs celebrated their 2021 homecoming parade. The 1970-1971 team excited the crowd as floats took over a shut down Main Street Friday afternoon.

“I want to thank everyone for coming and supporting our team on this festive day. Hopefully the team has their head game, and they can out victorious. Victory’s a sweet a thing,” said former Turlock High football player David Yonan.
