A former Meta engineer, his data scientist wife and their two 4-year-old twins were found dead inside their $2.1 million California home in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide.

Anand Sujith Henry, 37, allegedly killed his sons and fatally shot his wife, Alice Benzinger, 38, in a bathtub before turning the gun on himself, sources told KTVU.

SWAT team rescues 2, arrests suspect after Turlock hostage situation

 A SWAT team broke their way into a Turlock home overnight and rescued several people who were being held hostage by a suspect.

The incident started a little before 8 p.m., Turlock police say, when dispatchers got a call accusing a Turlock man of threatening to assault a woman inside a home along Elmcrest Court.

Parent dies at Turlock High after suffering medical emergency, school district reports

A parent died Monday evening at Turlock High after suffering a medical emergency, according to the Turlock Unified School District.

Firefighters responded at 7:21 p.m. to a report of a person not breathing in a vehicle parked on Berkeley Avenue in a secured area of the high school, according to a Turlock Fire Department incident report and a department spokesman.

Thirty-five local grapplers punch tickets to section championships

The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament this weekend will feature a plethora of area wrestlers after an eventful two days of boys divisional and girls regional action.

The wrestling programs of Pitman, Turlock, Hilmar and Hughson will send a total of 35 wrestlers to the Masters at the Stockton Arena on Friday and Saturday. Leading the way with the most qualifiers are the Pride, who will be sending 20 student-athletes to the tournament, including all 14 of their boys varsity wrestlers. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, will be sending 10 wrestlers, while the Huskies will send three and the Yellowjackets two.

Man Arrested With Stolen Motorcycle While Going Through Trash

At about 12:50am Monday, Turlock Police Officer Nunez got out with two suspicious persons near Valley Smoke Shop in the 500 block of N. Golden State Boulevard.

The couple had been going through trash that they had scattered all around.

Both subjects were identified, including Christopher Wilson, 33, of Modesto.

Local ballplayers set for spring training

Next week, spring training will get underway for all 30 Major League Baseball organizations. Among the hundreds of big leaguers and top prospects reporting to camp will be a handful of Turlockers, each at different levels and with varying goals for 2024.

Tyler Soderstrom, Oakland Athletics

Turlock High graduate Tyler Soderstrom will be reporting for his fourth consecutive major league spring training on Tuesday in Mesa, AZ., though it will be his first with MLB experience under his belt. After making his debut with Oakland Athletics on July 14, the catcher and first baseman admittedly struggled at the plate,  just .160 with a .472 OPS, three home runs and 43 strikeouts in 138 plate appearances over 45 games.

Local basketball teams await playoff seeding after strong regular seasons

Although they are crosstown rivals, the girls basketball programs of Turlock High and Pitman High must stand beside each other atop the Central California Athletic League standings and share the league championship after they each finished their regular seasons with 8-2 records. There won’t be any bragging rights on the side, either, as they split head-to-head matchups 1-1.

For the Bulldogs, it is their second consecutive 8-2 season, though it’s their first league title since the 2018-2019 campaign. It’s also their first league title under head coach Erica Hernandez. Pitman head coach Parmine Randhawa is celebrating the same milestone.

What are the top most popular majors at Stanislaus State? Here’s what new data shows

At Stanislaus State, students continue flocking to major in business administration. With around 1,524 students enrolled last semester, it has remained one of the most popular majors for more than four years.

According to data provided by the university, the remaining most popular majors are psychology, with around 1,299 students, liberal studies, with 752 students, criminal justice, with 611 students, and biological sciences, with 546 students enrolled in the majors.

Ceres man jailed in child sex allegations from a decade ago. He is being held on $1.75M bail

Ripon police arrested a Ceres man Tuesday morning on suspicion of committing sex crimes against children.

The man is being held on $1.75 million bail. Police took Derek William Young, 41, into custody Tuesday morning in a parking lot at the Kaiser Permanente Modesto Medical Center.

Young identified himself as a Ceres resident and his occupation as a patient care tech for Kaiser, according to a document obtained by The Bee. A Kaiser spokesman confirmed Young is an employee.
