Turlock Aug 11 Weekly Crime Report

Last week, we got a total of 9 safety incidents from Turlock. The incidents varied in nature with theft being the most common, accounting for 3 of the incidents. Arrests and assaults were next, each making up 2 of the incidents. The remaining two incidents were classified as 'Other' and 'Vandalism'. These incidents were spread throughout the week, with no specific patterns in their occurrence.

Legacy Health grant aims to support local medical professionals

Legacy Health Endowment announced another initiative aimed at improving healthcare for local residents, this time with grant to recruit and retain medical professionals to the Valley.

LHE gave a $400,000 conditional grant to support the creation of the Tony Weber Healthcare Scholars Program at Golden Valley Health Centers (GVHC). The program is designed to empower GVHC in providing its employees and future healthcare professionals with enhanced educational opportunities, ensuring continued growth and advancement within Golden Valley's exceptional healthcare services.

Back to class for local students

The 2023-2024 school year is here for local school districts. As many are prepared to welcome students back this coming week, there have been a handful of local districts who have already opened the classroom doors and have begun learning.

The three local school districts that have already gotten their years underway are Denair Unified, Hilmar Unified and Hughson Unified. Meanwhile, Turlock Unified and Turlock Christian will get things started on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

A&E puts spotlight on local jail

The national spotlight has once again shined on Stanislaus County, this time in the booking of suspects at the Stanislaus County Jail in the A&E cable TV channel series, “Booked First Day In.”

The eight-episode series began on June 15 and concluded on Aug. 3 but all episodes continue to be streamed to subscribers.

Reading of faith-based children’s books at Salida Library responds to ‘Woke agenda’

As part of the first nationwide See You at the Library Day on Saturday, families at the Salida Library were read “books of godly virtue,” according to the Escalon church that hosted the event.

Such story times reportedly were held across the nation Saturday in response to actor and filmmaker Kirk Cameron being denied story-hour slots at some public libraries for the reading of faith-based children’s books.

Two drivers killed in separate Merced County accidents over the weekend, CHP says

The California Highway Patrol is investigating two separate fatal accidents that occurred in Merced County over the weekend.

At about 11:59 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a rollover crash in the area of Highway 99 and Plainsburg Road, according to CHP Officer Eric Zuniga. Authorities said a 65-year-old man from San Ysidro was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado north on Highway 99.

Successful 13th Modstock Music Festival Showcases Exciting Mix of Music Talents in Modesto

The 13th Modstock Music Festival took place in Gracietta Park, Modesto. Both up-and-coming and established music acts performed in this year's event, mixing education and performance. The event, sponsored by Robert's Auto Sales and organized by the Valley Music Institute, featured over 77 bands on three stages. It includes more than 50 student bands and local popular talents.
