Feds say railroad must deliver grain to California chickens, cattle in danger of starving

OMAHA — Federal regulators have ordered Union Pacific railroad to make sure a livestock producer gets the grain it needs in California to prevent millions of chickens and hundreds of thousands of cattle from starving.

The U.S. Surface Transportation Board told the railroad it must improve service to Foster Farms to keep it from running out of feed for livestock it raises.

Storm leaves flooding, fallen tree damage across Modesto area. Here’s what’s ahead

A break on New Year’s Day from wild weather across the Modesto region is allowing flooding on roadways to subside and residents and cleanup crews to remove fallen trees and repair damage.

Flooding remained a danger in some places, though. Residents who went out to East La Loma Park to enjoy the sunny Sunday were asked to leave midafternoon because Dry Creek was flooding, police reported.

Motorist missing in south Sacramento County after floodwaters overwhelm roadways

Rescue crews are searching for a motorist who was reported missing in floodwaters in south Sacramento County.

Dan Quiggle, deputy fire chief for operations for Cosumnes Community Service District Fire Department, said Cosumnes and Wilton fire crews were searching for a missing motorist who was reported washed off Dillard Road near Highway 99 overnight.

It’s a new year, baby! Stanislaus County medical centers report first births of 2023

Some Stanislaus County hospitals continued the tradition Sunday, Jan. 1, of announcing the first births of 2023.

Doctors Medical Center could share only limited information about the first baby born there — just that he was born at 12:18 a.m. He weighed in at 8 pounds, 2 ounces, and measured 19.5 inches long, according to Tenet Healthcare spokeswoman Krista Deans.

Two shootings, two stabbings — one fatal — as Stanislaus County rings in the new year

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day morning were marked with violence in Stanislaus County, including two shootings and two stabbings, one of which was fatal. The latter was Turlock’s second homicide of the holiday weekend and appears to be the first of 2023.

Little has been released about the homicide, which was on the 400 block of East Linwood Avenue.

Georgia man wanted in North Augusta road rage shooting

Police are looking for a Georgia man after a road rage incident led to a shooting.

Tymere Dae'Shaun Nyree Hill, 23, of Metter, Georgia, is wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred after an argument during a wreck off an interstate ramp.

Hill has warrants for attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Turlock sideshow leads to fatal shooting of man and at least 2 crashes, police report

A sideshow in Turlock led to a fatal shooting and at least two traffic crashes early Saturday, police said.

The man who died was a 20-year-old Tracy resident whose name was not disclosed, a news release from the Turlock Police Department said. No arrests have been reported in the shooting.
