Turlock, Hilmar wrestlers ready for new season

While league matchups won’t get underway until the new year, local wrestlers are already honing their skills at various regional tournaments. Turlock High is once again looking to earn a league title and send as many athletes as possible to Master’s and then State.

Down the way at Hilmar High, the Yellowjackets are light on athletes but hoping to put in the work to rebuilding its program.

Local bikers unite to bring holiday joy

The doors of the Turlock Salvation Army were wide open on Friday as dozens of local motorcycle riders rolled up with bags of toys and other gifts. For the third year, Hell’s Angels and the United Motorcycle Clubs joined forced to sponsor local families, hoping to bring holiday cheer to those who are less fortunate.

Turlock man, booked on suspicion of murder, released after DA declines to file charges

A Turlock man arrested on suspicion of killing a man whose body was found in a partially burned commercial building this week was released from jail after the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges.

Danny Eule Stevens, 58, was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on Tuesday but was no longer listed in custody as of Friday morning.

Modesto, Turlock optometrist pleads guilty to $550,000 in health care fraud

A local optometrist with offices in Modesto and Turlock pleaded guilty to committing $500,000 in health care fraud, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert. United States District Judge Jennifer Thurston will determine Dr. Carole Sachs’ sentence March 6, according to a news release from Talbert’s office.

Police issue warning over discarded drugs

The Newman Police Department is issuing a warning to parents to pass on to their children about not picking up any bags or such things after methamphetamine was found discarded near two schools last week.

“On two separate occasions over the last two weeks quantities of suspected methamphetamine were found abandoned near two different schools within the jurisdiction of the Newman Crows Landing Unified School District,” the police department stated on their Facebook page.

Turlock’s Academica SC to join United Soccer League

xAcademica Soccer Club of Turlock announced on Thursday morning that their men’s and women’s teams will be joining the United Soccer League (USL) beginning in 2023.

The men’s team will be competing in USL League Two while the women’s squad will be an expansion team in the new USL W League. Academica’s move to the USL comes after five seasons in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

Turlock man arrested after body found in burned room

TURLOCK, Calif. — Multiple Stanislaus County agencies helped arrest a Turlock man who allegedly killed another man in an abandoned building, according to Turlock police.

Turlock Police Department officers were called to the area of West Linwood Avenue and Ellerd Drive for a welfare check, Monday. The caller told officers a man may have been assaulted and could be found in an abandoned building.

Turlock Sports Park prepares for big weekend

One of the biggest weekends on the calendar for the Turlock Sports Park is finally here. On Saturday, the local organization will be hosting two highly anticipated events: Their biannual flag football championships and a youth soccer camp with Turlock native and current DC United defender Hayden Sargis.

Both events will be taking place at the same time at the Turlock Sports Park facilities at 801 N. Soderquist Rd.

Since its grand opening in 2003, the Turlock Historical Society Museum is one of the many gems found in downtown Turlock. Its wide array of pictures, artifacts, and stories give visitors a great look into the history of our town.
