A firefighter was injured after responding to a commercial structure fire in Modesto Saturday night.

The Modesto Fire Department said the three-alarm blaze was near the intersection of Yosemite Boulevard and El Vista Avenue at a vacant business.

USPS mail carrier seriously injured in crash with a big rig west of Turlock

A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was seriously injured Friday afternoon in a collision with a big rig west of Turlock.

The crash occurred just after 1 p.m. on Crows Landing Road, just south of Monta Vista Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tom Olsen.

Possible meteor may have fallen in Merced County

The National Weather Service says a possible meteor fell in Merced County overnight.

Photos provided by Chief Meteorologist Kevin Musso show a little black dot with a streak of dark grey which behind it appears to be a meteor.

Aircraft Emergency Investigation Closes Mitchell Bridge

An investigation into an aircraft emergency closed the northbound lanes of the Mitchell Road Bridge Wednesday afternoon.

At about 1:00pm emergency crews were dispatched to the fields east of the Mitchell Road Bridge north of the Tuolumne River for a report of a plane crash.

Towering tree splits Turlock house. No one hurt, but three people displaced

The roof and walls of a Turlock home were no match for the enormous tree that fell into it during stormy weather Monday morning, “splitting it down the middle,” as a fire department report put it.

A little before 6:40 a.m., a fire engine crew was dispatched to the report of a tree on a house in the 1500 block of Hawkeye Avenue. Firefighters found a once-towering tree lying through the middle of the house.

The incident occurred on Almond Avenue in the vicinity of Elm Avenue at approximately 3:20 p.m. and involved a Chevrolet sedan, officials said.

Dan Quiggle, deputy fire chief for operations for Cosumnes Community Service District Fire Department, said Cosumnes and Wilton fire crews were searching for a missing motorist who was reported washed off Dillard Road near Highway 99 overnight.

Man killed in Christmas Eve crash near Keyes identified as local brewer

A man who was killed in a Christmas Eve crash has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

Tyler Klaproth, 40, died in a single-vehicle crash on southbound Highway 99 around 1 a.m. Saturday when his vehicle left the road and hit a tree. The SUV he was driving went off the west edge of 99, near Keyes Road, and into a dirt and grass area before crashing, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Modesto ranked second worst for traffic crashes among cities of similar size in California

Modesto was ranked the second worst for traffic crashes among its peer cities across the state, according to the latest rankings from the California Office of Traffic Safety, sustaining a trend since 2017.

The rankings look at about a dozen types of collisions, including drivers hitting pedestrians, fatal crashes, DUI crashes, hit-and-run and speed-related crashes.
