Teen driver flees collision with pedestrian

A teenager was behind the wheel in a collision that critically injured a man in Turlock on Thursday night.

The teenager initially fled the scene of the collision but subsequently went to the Turlock Police Department to speak with investigators, said department spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

The collision happened at 10:53 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Lander Avenue and E. Glenwood Avenue.

Five Year Old Child Injured in Vehicle Collision

At about 3:10 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of East Avenue and South Golden State Boulevard, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved. One was a silver Nissan pickup truck and the other was a black Cadillac sedan.

Two in Muscle Car Suffer Major Injuries After Crashing

At about 1:49 pm Wednesday afternoon, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a vehicle collision with injuries in front of Crane Terrace Apartments, 1318 East Canal Drive, Turlock.

When crews arrived on scene, they located three vehicles involved. One was a blue Ford muscle car, one was a gray Toyota sedan, and the last was a silver Toyota pickup truck. The blue Ford muscle car had two occupants. One was ejected from the vehicle and thrown on to the ground while the other was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated. Both suffered major injuries and were ground transported by American Medical Response to local hospitals. The two other vehicles were parked and unoccupied.

These Modesto-area firefighters were in the right place when a jet crashed in Truckee

Firefighters from a Stanislaus County strike team had left one massive wildfire and were headed to another Monday afternoon when they saw the fiery crash of a jet aircraft that smashed into trees as it was trying to land at the Truckee Tahoe Airport.

The five-engine strike team was on its way to Chico to join the firefighters at the Dixie Fire after spending a week helping fight the Tamarack Fire when the jet crashed about 1:20 p.m. The team was a mile or so away from when the jet crashed, said Tim Tietjen, the Modesto Fire Department’s division chief and the strike team leader.

Boy, 3, flown to hospital after suffering injuries in Turlock-area DUI crash, CHP says

A 3-year old boy was airlifted to the hospital after suffering injuries in a crash south of Turlock, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At 8:38 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the area of south Golden State Boulevard and Griffith Avenue near the Merced County border. A black sedan had collided with a Chevy pickup truck, CHP Sgt. Danny Bowen said.

The 25-year-old man driving the sedan was suspected to be driving under the influence, had minor injuries, and was arrested, according to the CHP.

Denair Fire rescues cat from house fire

Three pets died in a house fire Monday evening in Denair, but firefighters were able to save the life of one cat.

The fire was reported at 4:59 p.m. Monday in the 4000 block of Katella Drive.

Firefighters from the Denair Fire Department arrived at the scene and found smoke and flames coming out of the home. Crews made an interior attack on the fire and were quickly able to contain the spread and keep the flames from burning more of the home.

House fire claims life of Denair man, two young sons

Family and friends of Sergio Inostros Jr., 25, Mason Mulgado, 8, and Bennet Inostros, 3, busied themselves Tuesday washing a line of vehicles outside Denair Market and taking donations to help with the funeral expenses for the three.

Amber Ortega, the sister of Sergio Inostros, said the family is grateful for all the kindness that has been bestowed on them, likening it to “little grains of sand” of comfort to cling to when the waves of grief crashes down on them.

The magnitude of their loss is hard to fathom. Sergio Inostros Jr. and the two young boys lost their lives Sunday when their Denair home went up in flames.

Turlock man dies in high-speed motorcycle crash outside Copperopolis

COPPEROPOLIS, Calif. (KTXL) — The California Highway Patrol says a Turlock man died Wednesday after his motorcycle drove off the road and crashed near Copperopolis. 

According to the CHP, a San Andreas CHP officer driving on Highway 4 near Horseshoe Road saw a 2021 Yamaha R1 driving extremely fast around 5:51 p.m.

The officer made a U-turn to follow the driver, identified as 47-year-old Gary Steven Ribeira Jr., but soon lost sight of him. 

It wasn’t until the officer approached a curve in the road that he saw Ribeira Jr. again.

81-year-old driver struck, killed by train in Turlock

TURLOCK, Calif. — An 81-year-old man died after the car he was driving was hit by a train in Turlock Monday afternoon.

According to the Turlock Police Department, the deadly crash happened at the Monte Vista and Golden State railroad crossing just after 1:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a blue Subaru which had been hit by a train. The 81-year-old man driving the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. His identity has not been released.

Officers believe the man was driving southbound on Golden State and attempted to turn onto Monte Vista through the railroad crossing when his car collided with the oncoming train. 

All train crossing signals, warning lights and crossing arms were working properly before the crash occurred.
