2 killed, 3 hurt in Stanislaus County crash

A woman and a 12-year-old were killed and three other people were hospitalized after a Labor Day crash in Stanislaus County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 29-year-old driver of a Honda Civic and the 12-year-old died in the crash, which happened around 4 p.m. on Highway 132 near Vernalis, according to CHP.

For reasons unknown, the Honda drifted over to the westbound lane, turned sharply but ended up overcorrecting and spinning counterclockwise. The car crossed back over to the westbound lane and collided with a white van whose driver was not able to steer away in time, CHP said.

Worker Killed In Apparent Accident At Foster Farms Facility In Turlock

TURLOCK (CBS13) – Police have confirmed that a worker was killed while on the job at a Foster Farms facility in Turlock.

The employee was working at the business in the 500 block of F Street just before 7 p.m. Monday. According to a Cal/OSHA statement, a source outside the company said the worker was reportedly seen falling asleep while on the production line and was awoken several times by co-workers. He was later pulled into the production conveyor by his neck, resulting in fatal crushing injuries to his skull and was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Just a phenomenal person’ | San Joaquin corrections sergeant who died in off-duty accident laid to rest

TURLOCK, Calif. — The somber tones of bag pipes outside of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock led a processional of mourners, family, friends and co-workers of Cesar Fuentes, a San Joaquin County correctional sergeant.

Fuentes, 32, was killed Jan. 12 when he was headed home after work and crashed into a pick-up truck in French Camp. Ten days later, Fuentes was buried in the same Turlock community in which he was born.

"He was just a phenomenal person," said Fuentes' sister, Marlene Larios. "He was very funny — little tornado. And he's always wanted to serve since I can remember."

Falling giant redwood tree kills hiker in California on Christmas Eve

A man hiking in California was struck and killed this week by a giant redwood tree that fell on him.

Subhradeep Dutta, 28, of Edina, Minnesota, died Tuesday after the incident in Muir Woods National Monument Park in Mill Valley, California, according to a news release from the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

Newborn survives being ejected from violent Turlock crash

TURLOCK, Calif. (KTXL) -- A newborn miraculously survived being thrown from a crash Sunday night in Turlock.

The California Highway Patrol says 6-week-old Ezra Benitez's family was driving their SUV south on Highway 99 and crashed near the Main Street exit, flipping several times before coming to a stop.

Ezra was found upside down in his car seat down the shoulder. He only had minor injuries.

CHP: 4, including infant, hurt in Highway 99 crash near Turlock

Four people, including an infant, were hurt in a crash Sunday night near Turlock, officials say.

The driver was traveling southbound on Highway 99 north of West Main Street in Turlock. There were three passengers, including an infant, when the crash happened around 7:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

The car at some point moved to the right from the middle lane and lost control, causing a rollover crash, the CHP said. The infant was ejected from the SUV but remained in the carrier.

CHP: Man dies in garbage truck crash in Modesto

MODESTO, Calif. (KTXL) -- A man is dead after the garbage truck he was driving crashed into a tree in Modesto Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol Modesto.

After a preliminary investigation, CHP Officer Thomas Olsen said the two-axle truck carrying tree debris was traveling westbound on Finch Road just east of South McClure Road.

For some unknown reason, the truck left the road on the right shoulder, hitting a fence belonging to Ring Container Technologies before crashing into a large tree, Olsen said.

The driver died from his injuries.

Modesto residents are asking for city’s help to stop falling trees

MODESTO, Calif. (KTXL) -- With fallen trees, missing limbs and holes in the ground, families said living on Modesto’s Ardmor Avenue is like gambling with their safety.

“It’s like a nightmare on Ardmor Street because trees are just falling everywhere,” said resident Heidi Fountain.

“It’s a concern for me because the trees are over 65 years old. They’re old,” said resident Eldon Glenn.

Fountain said one of those trees crashed near her daughter’s car in the last week of November.

“We would just like to be able to park our cars, live in our homes and not worry about trees falling,” Fountain told FOX40.

Fountain said this time, the fallen timber only scraped the back of her daughter’s car. Her neighbor’s work truck wasn’t so lucky. And in the summer of 2018, neither was her daughter’s brand new Hyundai

California mountain climber dies in Mexico

MEXICO CITY (AP) – Civil defense officials in northern Mexico have confirmed the death of California mountain climber Brad Gobright in a fall.

The fall occurred at an almost sheer rock face known as Sendero Luminoso on the El Potrero Chico peak near the northern city of Monterrey.

The Nuevo Leon state civil defense office said Thursday that Gobright fell about 300 meters (yards).

The publication Rock and Ice described the 31-year-old Gobright as a native of Orange County, California, who was “one of the most accomplished free solo climbers in the world.”

1 killed in California plane crash; 3 people in home escape

A small airplane crashed into a residence in a Southern California city, leaving the pilot dead. Three people inside the home, including an infant, made it to safety, officials said.

"A single-engine Cirrus SR22 crashed under unknown circumstances into a house on West 115th Street in Upland," FAA spokesperson Ian Gregor confirmed. Upland is 20 miles west of San Bernardino.
San Bernardino County Fire Department spokesman David Pingree told CNN affiliate KCAL that two adults and the child were able to get out of the home on Thursday morning.
