There was a 20 by 20 ft. vegetation fire near the south entrance of the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp on Sunday afternoon shortly before one o’clock. The forward progress was quickly stopped. The cause was not immediately released.

The area’s lakes, rivers and streams will pose a tempting relief to the rising temperatures but emergency responders are warning that a quick dip could have hidden dangers for swimmers.
On Monday, Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke issued an order to close the Merced River and San Joaquin River for recreational use. The order comes in the wake of two recent drownings and affects all access areas throughout Merced County.

Emergency services were called to the scene promptly. Reports confirmed at least one person was trapped inside a vehicle. The cause of the crash remains unknown.

A commercial truck struck a man standing next to a car on Highway 99 in Keyes early Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Ezequiel Gonzalez Mejia, 41, of Los Angeles suffered major injuries and was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, a news release said. The nature of his injuries was not reported.

Several fire agencies were needed to fight a massive fire that engulfed a building in Stanislaus County.
Around 10 a.m. on Saturday, the Denair Fire Department said it responded to a structure fire in the 3300 block of E. Barnhart Road. Upon arrival, crews found a multi-bay outbuilding up in flames.

A motorcycle rider died Sunday when he was ejected from the motorcycle in a Merced County crash, according to authorities.
At about 9:18 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to the area of State Route 165 just north of River Road, for a report of a collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle, according to CHP Officer Eric Zuñiga. Authorities said the section of the road where the collision occurred is located on a bridge that spans the Merced River.

Deputies have recovered the body of a 27-year-old man who was swimming at Woodward Reservoir on Sunday afternoon, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies responded to the area of Mountain View Point at Woodward Reservoir for a swimmer who was seen struggling and in distress shortly before 2 p.m.

Four people, including a 1-year-old girl, died in a collision involving four vehicles north of Modesto, authorities said Tuesday evening.
