Man caught up in Stockton sideshow had foot amputated after hit by vehicle

A sideshow in Stockton over the weekend sent one person to the hospital after one of the cars lost control.

Sideshows are illegal car shows that often lead to blocked parking lots, streets, or highways. Participants, often by the dozens, crowd around a handful of vehicles that perform donuts.

Another fatal hit-and-run. This time a bicyclist is killed in Modesto

A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run on the 3700 block of McHenry Avenue on Tuesday evening, according to the Modesto Police Department.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in looking for a white, or light-colored, 2010 to 2013 model Kia Soul last seen traveling southbound on McHenry Avenue. The vehicle should have had damage to its windshield and passenger side, according to a police statement.

Vehicle Left Abandoned Stuck On Railroad Tracks With Incoming Train

At about 11:32pm Friday night, Turlock Police responded to a traffic hazard at W. Monte Vista Avenue and N. Golden State Boulevard, for a vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks.

When officers arrived on scene, they located the vehicle facing south just south of the railroad crossing. It was unoccupied.

Bicyclist struck and killed by Modesto driver Friday identified as homeless woman

Authorities have identified the bicyclist who died Friday after being struck by a sport utility vehicle near Graceada Park as a 36-year-old homeless woman.

Rosanna Petrushkin was the 15th person to die in Modesto this year in a traffic accident, Lt. Dan Starr has said. Six involved vehicles vs. pedestrians and two were vehicles vs. bicyclists.

Parent dies at Turlock High after suffering medical emergency, school district reports

A parent died Monday evening at Turlock High after suffering a medical emergency, according to the Turlock Unified School District.

Firefighters responded at 7:21 p.m. to a report of a person not breathing in a vehicle parked on Berkeley Avenue in a secured area of the high school, according to a Turlock Fire Department incident report and a department spokesman.

Turlock, CA – Injuries in Vehicle Collision on W Main St, Bystrum Rd

A collision resulting in injuries occurred on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the intersection of W Main St and Bystrum Rd. At approximately 11:47 a.m., a red truck and a semi-truck collided.

By 11:53 a.m., the issue escalated from an unknown injury status to emergency services being dispatched.

Two badly burned in cave fire along the bank of Tuolumne River in Modesto

A man and a woman suffered second- and third-degree burns Sunday afternoon when a fire ignited in a cave dug into a steep embankment along the Tuolumne River in south Modesto.

Deputy Fire Chief Darin Jesberg said the man and woman appeared to be in their 30s and the burns were on their faces, hands and arms. One also had burns to the backside, and Jesberg did not know whether that was the man or the woman.

Firefighters battle barn blaze

All Turlock Fire units responded to a working structure fire in the 900 block of Souza St. at approximately 4:56 p.m. Monday. First arriving crews found smoke and flames coming from the second story of a barn. Crews brought the fire under control within 30 minutes.

Through Turlock Fire’s resource sharing partners, two additional engines, one truck, and one additional battalion chief also responded. Crews worked for an extended period of time conducting overhaul of the fire building. There were no injuries reported and no residents were displaced.

Modesto man clearing his gun accidentally shoots, kills his 83-year-old mother

An 83-year-old woman died after being accidentally shot by her son inside their Modesto home on Wednesday, according to police.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. in the 300 block of Emerson Avenue, southeast of Rumble Road and McHenry Avenue.

Modesto man drowns at Woodward Reservoir after his kayak reportedly capsizes

A Modesto man drowned Saturday morning at Woodward Reservoir after his kayak reportedly capsized.

Carlos Evans, 53, was attending a family barbecue when he took a kayak out about 10 a.m., according to Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Erich Layton. Evans, who authorities said was not wearing a life jacket, was about 100 yards offshore when the kayak capsized. Family saw him waving his arms and called for help.
