Modesto police investigating fatal DUI crash on Tully Road on Saturday afternoon

A man was killed and two other people suffered minor injuries in suspected DUI crashes Saturday afternoon, according to the Modesto police and fire departments.

The first crash was shortly after 5 p.m. at the intersection of Tully Road and Briggsmore Avenue, according to the Police Department.

Two drivers killed in separate Merced County accidents over the weekend, CHP says

The California Highway Patrol is investigating two separate fatal accidents that occurred in Merced County over the weekend.

At about 11:59 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a rollover crash in the area of Highway 99 and Plainsburg Road, according to CHP Officer Eric Zuniga. Authorities said a 65-year-old man from San Ysidro was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado north on Highway 99.

Drunk driver arrested after crashing and injuring someone Sunday night

On Sunday, July 23rd, 2023, at 8:46 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Lander Ave and Montana Ave, Turlock.

When units arrived on scene, they found two vehicles involved, a black 2004 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2014 Jeep Wrangler.

At least one person was injured, however, specific details were not available.

Modesto man, 81, found dead in swimming pool after being out of contact a few days

An 81-year-old Modesto resident was found dead in his home swimming pool Sunday evening after apparently having been in the water at least a couple of days.

Public safety responders went to a home on Sherwood Court, southeast of Sherwood and Bowen avenues, at about 6:15 p.m. after getting a report of a drowning.

In a shocking accident, a young Californian mom tragically lost her life in Modesto's Beard Brook Park on July 8, 2023. The victim, 27-year-old Christine Chavez, was reportedly lying down in a weed-filled area of the park when a groundskeeper unknowingly ran over her with a lawnmower. Devastatingly, the worker only spotted Chavez's body after the horrific incident.

House catches fire while illegal fireworks were still being launched early Wednesday morning

On Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, at 1:15 am, the Turlock Fire Department, Modesto Fire Department, Turlock Police Department, Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported structure fire at a residence in the 800 block of N Berkeley Ave, Turlock.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy fire involvement from a single-story single-family dwelling that appeared to be vacant and under construction.

Modesto Fire crews respond to 274 calls for service in 24 hours

The Fourth of July had Modesto fire crews running from Modesto and Ceres to Salida and Oakdale.

According to the Modesto Fire Department, crews responded to 274 calls for service between 7 a.m. on July 4 to 7 a.m. on July 5. 

The calls for service included 65 fires, eight structure/building fires, 41 vegetation fires and 16 trash fires.

Turlock woman loses everything in apartment fire while caring for grandchildren

For Patricia Escalante, caring for her grandchildren is nothing new. But after a tragic apartment fire in Turlock took everything they had, she's trying to stay strong while in very unfamiliar territory.

"It ruined everything destroyed everything. We were lucky to get out alive," said Escalante.

Escalante said she noticed the fire coming from her granddaughter's room and felt the heat radiating off the floor.
