Modesto clinic that spays, neuters cats and dogs at a discount needs a new home. Here’s why

A veterinary clinic that has spayed and neutered about 20,000 cats and dogs — frequently at a deep discount for the owners — in the last five years while operating out of the Stanislaus Animal Services Agency has been given more time to find a new home.

Valley Pet Care initially posted on social media that it had to leave by Nov. 24. It has been leasing a 1,600-square-foot space on a month-to-month basis, and on Aug. 24 the agency gave its 90-day notice to end the lease.

Local wildlife center called on to help in avian botulism outbreak

A makeshift triage center is being set up Friday afternoon on the grounds of the Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center, just a few hundred feet from the Tuolumne River.

Executive director Donna Burt and her team, working under a pop-up canopy to fight the glaring sun, are waiting for California Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel to deliver birds from Kings County that are afflicted with avian botulism.

‘Clear the Shelter’ aim of free pet adoption event

Stanislaus Animal Services Agency will be participating in the nationwide "Clear the Shelters" event on Friday and Saturday. This special event will offer a unique opportunity for animal enthusiasts to find their furry companions without any adoption fees.

As SASA finds itself facing unprecedented overcrowding with over 260 animals in its care, the "Clear the Shelters" event couldn't come at a more opportune time, according to shelter staff. To alleviate the situation and create room for more dogs in need, SASA is waiving all adoption fees for all dogs and cats during these two days.

Turlock rescue comes to the aid of abandoned dogs

Forty dogs that were abandoned in a Gustine orchard will in a matter of weeks be ready to move into new homes thanks to the efforts of a Turlock-based rescue group and several volunteer groomers called into action.

The dogs, a mix of poodles, cocker spaniels, Doodles, Schmoodles and one Afghan, were abandoned last week out on Eastin Road.

Not Guilty! Jury Acquits Activists Who Rescued Sick Foster Farms Chickens from Truck

Former Baywatch star Alexandra Paul and co-defendant Alicia Santurio were found not guilty of misdemeanor theft after rescuing two suffering chickens from a transport truck outside a Foster Farms slaughterhouse in Livingston, California.

The incident, documented by animal protection organization Direct Action Everywhere, occurred in September 2021.

Feds say railroad must deliver grain to California chickens, cattle in danger of starving

OMAHA — Federal regulators have ordered Union Pacific railroad to make sure a livestock producer gets the grain it needs in California to prevent millions of chickens and hundreds of thousands of cattle from starving.

The U.S. Surface Transportation Board told the railroad it must improve service to Foster Farms to keep it from running out of feed for livestock it raises.

Merced County animal shelter reducing adoption fees through November

The Merced County Sheriff's Animal Services Bureau in Atwater is reducing the cost to adopt through the end of November.

Dogs and puppies will only be $20. Cats and kittens are just $15.
