Turlock religious leader: Homophobia in any space, including church, is sacrilegious | Opinion

Civilization has always depended on the belief or agreement of a majority of three fictional creations: money, politics and religion. Wars happen when those in power lose control of one or more of the fictional creations that serve to allow the manipulation of the rest of us.

We are now in a situation where two or three of the fictions are in conflict on a world-wide level. The U.S. and Israel may not survive unless we start to adjust to new situations instead of implementing our will by means of force.

Turlock, CA – Vehicle Collision at Monte Vista Ave & Countryside Dr Injures One

A vehicle collision at the intersection of Monte Vista Ave and Countryside Dr on Thursday, March 21, left one person injured. Around 9:34 p.m., Turlock Police and Fire responded to the scene. Initially, reports indicated an unconscious individual. 

However, upon arrival, officers confirmed the accident involved two vehicles and one injured but conscious person. Emergency teams, including firefighters and AMR, were on-site assisting. The crash led to the northbound lane of Countryside Dr being diverted.

Man Dies Of Suspected Overdose After Being Found Down In Bush

At about 4:05pm Tuesday, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to an overdose at W. Main Street and S. First Street.

The caller reported there was a man possibly overdosing on fentanyl near the intersection.

Students’ skills tested in Occupational Olympics

Turlock and Hughson high schools took top honors at the Stanislaus County Office of Education’s 38th Occupational Olympics and Career Exposition, held Thursday at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.

Turlock took first place overall in the large-school division, while Hughson High was tops in the small-school category.

A quarter of the state’s homeless are Black, study says — experts say more affordable housing needed

Over a quarter of homeless individuals in California are Black, almost four times higher than the state’s Black population, according to a report by the University of California, San Francisco, Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative . In Stanislaus County, the difference is a little lower — about 3.5 times.

The February report “Toward Equity: Understanding Black Californians’ Experiences of Homelessness” lays out the systemic causes that have left so many unhoused, detailing the crisis of homelessness among the minority group.

Stanislaus County plans transformation for long-neglected South Ninth Street in Modesto

Efforts are under way to transform a stretch of South Ninth Street in south Modesto, and planners want to hear ideas from the public.

Stanislaus County is working on a land use and transportation plan for the long-neglected corridor, defined as a 1.25-mile stretch of South Ninth from the Tuolumne River bridge south to Hatch Road. The targeted area lies between Seventh Street and Bystrum Road.

California serial bank robbers busted after 6 heists in multiple cities, police say

A bank robber and his getaway driver have been caught after carrying out a string of heists across Northern California, authorities said Wednesday.

Antioch residents Brandon Lopez, 37, and 43-year-old Tamara Bush are linked to at least six bank robberies or attempted robberies in San Jose, Modesto, Milpitas, Fremont and Sacramento, the San Jose Police Department said.
