Ripon reduces February water use by 28%

The City of Ripon continued to up its game when it comes to water conservation.

Director of Public Works James Pease announced at Tuesday’s Ripon City Council meeting that residents reduced their water usage by 28 percent last month, using the pre-drought February 2013 groundwater levels as the baseline comparison.

Sacramento-based Blue Diamond Growers cuts 38 corporate jobs in a round of layoffs

Sacramento-based Blue Diamond Growers recently eliminated 38 corporate jobs in layoffs aimed at remaining cost efficient “under heightened pressure,” the cooperative of almond farmers said.

Blue Diamond, a cooperative of more than 3,000 farmers, is one of the largest almond producers in the world. It processes the almonds it buys from the farmers at plants in Sacramento and in the Central Valley at locations in Salida and Turlock.

20-year-old Stanislaus County woman reported missing for weeks, mysterious texts received

 A Patterson woman who has been missing for over two weeks has yet to be found, according to the State of California Department of Justice and Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.

20-year-old Breanna Marie Taylor was reportedly last seen on Feb. 23 and listed as missing on the same day. She is described as having black hair with red undertones, being 5’5 feet tall and weighing 110 pounds, according to the missing person report . Taylor was also reported to have a flower tattoo on the left side of her chest and a nose ring in her right nostril.

Man Arrested On Warrant After Reportedly Urinating Inside Denny’s

At about 9:47pm Friday, Turlock Police responded to a disturbance in progress at Denny’s in the 1900 block of Lander Avenue.

The caller reported that Jorge Perez, 58, of Turlock, had come into the business, urinated on the floor, and tried to hit the manager before fleeing southbound Lander Avenue on foot.

Large illegal marijuana operation and guns seized in Modesto

A search warrant in Modesto led to the discovery of a large illegal marijuana grow on Friday, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) executed the search warrant on a residence on the 500 block of Glenn Avenue in Modesto, officials said. During the search, a large illegal marijuana grow was in operation along with six firearms within the residence.

Police arrest two after finding over 200 pounds of drugs, nearly $100k in Stanislaus County

 The Modesto Police Department said it arrested two Stanislaus County men on Wednesday after a traffic stop and search warrant revealed over 200 pounds of methamphetamine, nearly 80 pounds of cocaine, 4 pounds of heroin, and over $90,000.

Police said that the two men, 46 and 23 from Ceres, have each had their bail set at $2 million and face a variety of possession charges relating to drugs and guns.
