One dead, one wounded in shooting in Merced County

One man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting at a taco truck in Winton Tuesday afternoon.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just before 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe Dr. and Walnut Ave.

Returning students focus of Health Center Week

Teen accused of making bombs for sale in Atwater

ATWATER, Calif. (FOX26) — A teen in Atwater is in custody after a search warrant was served at his home because he was suspected of making bombs.

It began when the Merced Sheriff's Department received a tip Sunday from the FBI that a 17-year-old boy was manufacturing and selling explosive devices from a home.

CERES, Calif. — By late morning it was already hot, but not nearly as scorching as it would be in just a few hours. Lourdes Cardenas, 59, had already walked nearly 8 dusty, sun-blasted miles from Turlock, with about that many more to go to the day’s destination in downtown Modesto.

At break time, a mariachi in full regalia began to play, and Cardenas sank into a chair set up under a shade structure, gathered up creams and bandages, and bent over her blistered, swollen feet.

Popular acts to headline Turlock theater as new season announced. Here’s who’s coming

Stanislaus County is spending $50 million on sidewalks, sewer, water. Where is it going?

Stanislaus County will distribute $50 million in American Rescue Plan funds unevenly across supervisorial districts to make improvements in county unincorporated pockets that need it most.

County supervisors voted 5-0 to approve the methodology Tuesday evening, giving the largest portion of funding — $16.9 million — to make improvements in Supervisor Channce Condit’s District 5 including Ceres, part of south Modesto and western Stanislaus County.
