Man accused of trying to run down officer: Merced PD

MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 23-year-old man was arrested in Merced, police say, on suspicion of trying to run over an officer and then leading law enforcement on an 11-mile pursuit.

According to the Merced Police Department Matthew Tijerina intentionally swerved his Honda Pilot into oncoming traffic and into the path of Officer Alejandro Arias Saturday night.

California drug bust shuts down ‘major trafficking operation’ in several counties

 Hundreds of pounds of illegal drugs were seized along with firearms and more than $150,000 in cash after warrants were served in several California counties, according to the Modesto Police Department.

The seizure was made by police with assistance from the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, the FBI, Merced Area Gang and Narcotic Enforcement Team and the DEA, following a months-long investigation.

Man dies while trying to steal catalytic converter in Merced, police say

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man is dead after police say the car he was trying to steal a catalytic converter from fell on top of him.

Missing California girl found dead in wooded area

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a missing 16-year-old California girl has been found dead in a wooded area less than a mile from the where she was last seen.

The Sacramento Bee reports that her body was found Friday afternoon and identified by the sheriff’s office in Nevada County northeast of Sacramento.

Merced mourns for 9-month-old killed in drive-by shooting

MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The makeshift memorial on 12th and Q Street in Merced went from a single teddy bear to a collection of toys on Thursday as people came to pay their respects to 9-month-old Darius King Grigsby, who police say was shot and killed on Wednesday while his mother and a friend walked him in a stroller.

Update: Modesto police investigating shooting death at a Coffee Road strip mall

A man was killed and a suspect arrested in a shooting Friday night in the parking lot of a strip mall on Coffee Road, according to Modesto police.

Officers were dispatched to a report of a person shooting a firearm in the parking lot of 1501 Coffee, near Coolidge Avenue, just before 9 p.m., according to Sgt. Kalani Souza. Radio traffic indicated the shooting was just outside a Mexican food restaurant.

Ceres shooting victim expected to survive. Subject in Dodge pickup sought

The person shot multiple times near the Hatch Road exit of Highway 99 on Friday night in Ceres is expected to survive, a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said Sunday morning.

Deputies were dispatched about 8:42 p.m. Friday to assist Ceres police officers on a report of a person shot, sheriff’s Sgt. Luke Schwartz said.

Search warrant leads to drugs and weapons arrest in Turlock

TURLOCK, Calif. (FOX26) — A Turlock man is one of nearly 30 arrested in a multi-agency crackdown conducted in multiple Valley counties.

The Turlock Special Weapons and Tactics Team, with the help of Investigators with the Special Investigations Unit (S.I.U.) and Detectives with the Turlock Police Department, served a search and arrest warrant last week for 38-year-old Asuncion Quintero in the 800 block of High Street.

Turlock Man Caught With Stolen Vehicle In Jamestown

Jamestown, CA — A Central Valley man was arrested early Tuesday morning after being caught with a stolen vehicle on Wigwam Road in Jamestown.

The truck was taken out of Merced County and spotted by a Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant who ran a records check on the vehicle.

3 Sacramentans, 18 others arrested in alleged catalytic converter theft ring

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Police Department participated in a Nationwide Catalytic Converter Theft Operation in partnership with federal, state and local law enforcement partners Wednesday.  

Law enforcement partners from across the country executed a nationwide takedown of people for their alleged roles in “conspiracies involving stolen catalytic converters sold to a metal refinery for tens of millions of dollars,” according to officials.
