Homeless man tragically killed crossing street had gotten clean, was turning life around

MODESTO, Calif. — A man experiencing homelessness in Modesto was tragically killed while crossing McHenry Avenue. It came at a time when his family says he was turning his life around after battles with mental health and drug addition.

To his family, he always was and will always be the little brother.

“He was always laughing, always joking," said Nicole Fox, Hadley's sister. ”He was just that little brother, you know?”

At Modesto protest of ‘comply or die’ policing, loved ones of those killed seek justice

About two dozen family members, friends and advocates of police reform gathered early Saturday afternoon at one of Modesto’s busiest intersections to repeat their call for justice in the July 14 fatal shooting of Paul Chavez by a police officer.

The demonstrators gathered at the northwest corner of Briggsmore and McHenry avenues by the Briggsmore Square Shopping Center.

Judge Grants Continuance for Man in Drug Rehab on Word of Defense Attorney

MODESTO, CA – In a late Friday afternoon early case management conference in Stanislaus County Superior Court, Judge Carrie Stephens agreed to a continuance and not to forfeit Benjamin Forster Tyson’s bail after he failed to appear in court.

The judge made the ruling after Tyson’s attorney Michael Moore explained the accused was busy attending a substance abuse rehabilitation program.

Social media threat against Turlock High School under investigation

TURLOCK – Authorities say they are investigating social media posts around a potential threat at Turlock High School.

Turlock police said on Thursday that they were aware of the postings and that a school resource officer had already identified the student allegedly involved in them.

Man holding knife to his own throat arrested following standoff in Turlock, deputies say

TURLOCK, Calif. (FOX26) — Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies arrested a man on Tuesday they say ran from a home he was burglarizing and then held them at bay while telling them he did not want to live.

Deputies were called to a home on G and 1st Streets around 1:00 p.m. for the reports of a burglary in progress.

Another marijuana bust in Southern Oregon takes nearly 9,000 pounds off the street

JACKSON COUNTY, Oregon — A truck pulling a cargo trailer drew the suspicions of police in Southern Oregon after the driver reportedly committed several traffic violations.

An Oregon State Police trooper pulled over the driver on State Route 62 near Eagle Point on October 12 around 3:00 p.m.  He consented to a search, which uncovered approximately 350 garbage bags of dried, processed marijuana weighing just shy of 9,000 pounds.

Stockton Suspected Serial Killer Linked to 6 Deaths Arrested While ‘He Was Out Hunting,’ Police Say

A suspected serial killer who is linked to six deaths in the Northern California communities of Stockton and Oakland has been arrested, according to Stockton Police Department (SPD).

Wesley Brownlee, 43, was "also armed with a firearm when he was taken into custody" on Saturday morning, SPD Chief Stanley McFadden said via SPD's Facebook page, adding that "he was out hunting" when the police found him.

Man killed in fatal hit-and-run in Turlock. Police release photos of suspect’s vehicle

Turlock police are looking for the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Fulkerth Road on Tuesday afternoon.

What authorities believe is a white Acura TL was traveling west on Fulkerth, between Tully Road and Countryside Drive, when it hit a pedestrian in the roadway, according to Sgt. Mike Parmley.

Repeat Offender Accused of Grand Theft Auto Pleads No Contest, Judge Offers Lenient Sentence for Accused’s Cooperation

MODESTO, CA – Judge Carrie Stephens accepted John William Merritt Sharp’s no contest plea here in Stanislaus County Superior Court late last week, and meted out a lighter-than-normal sentence for Sharp’s theft of a 2011 Lexus SUV and alleged evasion of police officers while driving dangerously.

Sharp faced charges of felony grand theft auto and felony reckless evading, and told the judge, “I could be better ma’am.”
