Stanislaus County human trafficking operation arrests 77 people, Sheriff’s Office says

A human trafficking operation conducted by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrests of 77 people throughout a six-day effort, the office announced Wednesday.

The operation, part of a statewide effort called “Operation Reclaim and Rebuild,” raided four massage parlors: two in Modesto, one in Ceres and another in Turlock. Evidence collected during the raids was used as a basis to search further locations, according to the Sheriff’s Office’s statement.

Arrest made in fatal Turlock hit-and-run after months-long investigation by police

An arrest was made on Tuesday in a fatal November hit-and-run that happened in Turlock, police announced.

Jose Gutierrez-Cruz was arrested near the intersection of Fulkerth and Tully roads during an investigation done by Turlock Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.

Turlock school placed on lockdown and people detained after report of shots fired

An elementary school in Turlock was placed on lockdown and several people were detained after gunshots were reportedly fired nearby.

At around 10:30 a.m. Monday, police were told that gunshots were fired in the area of Lander and Linwood avenues. Nearby, Cunningham Elementary School was placed on a precautionary lockdown as police investigated the incident.

Area police agencies cooperate in fraud case

Following an investigation of several days, a New York man was taken into custody on fraud charges by the Oakdale Police Department.

In a post on the department’s Facebook page, Oakdale Police reminded residents to “Beware of skimming devices that can steal your personal information.”

The post also indicated that, with the help of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office and City of Turlock - Turlock Police Department, the 55-year-old man was arrested for placing skimming devices on several area ATMs.

Director of Modesto LGBTQ+ organization among those arrested in child predator sting

The executive director of the Rainbow Resource Center, a leading Modesto-based LGBTQ+ support center, was confirmed to be one of 17 men arrested on suspicion of eliciting sex with a minor.

Gerad Slayton, 42, was arrested during a sting operation conducted by the Turlock Police Department set up to catch predators allegedly seeking to meet minors with the intent to have sex with them.

Update: Stanislaus sheriff’s deputies locate missing girl in Idaho. Suspect arraigned

A missing juvenile girl whom Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies had been looking for since August was found safe in Idaho on Wednesday, officials reported. A man with her — Cristian Ceja, 27, of Turlock — was arrested.

The 16-year-old was designated as a runaway and was reported to have been last seen leaving her Turlock home in the middle of the night Aug. 27, the Turlock Journal reported. She was believed to be with Ceja.
