L.A. & California Economy Strong, But Might Take Small Hit from Coronavirus

California and Los Angeles County are forecasted to enjoy moderate yet sustained growth throughout the next two years, according to a Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation forecast released on Feb. 19. Production slowdowns over the coronavirus outbreak, as well as entrenched issues such as housing and the cost of living in Los Angeles, are threatening growth.

California’s gross domestic product is forecasted to grow 2.0 percent in 2020 and 1.6 percent in 2021, according to the forecast. Los Angeles County’s gross domestic product is forecasted to grow 1.8 percent in 2020 and slow down to 1.6 percent in 2021. The 10-county Southern California region is forecasted to grow at 1.8 percent over the next two years.

New coronavirus case confirmed among cruise ship evacuees quarantined at California hospital

A new case of coronavirus was confirmed in California among the evacuees of the Diamond Princess cruise ship who are now under quarantine.

The patient, who tested positive for the virus before leaving Japan but had no symptoms, was placed in isolation at a medical center in Napa County in Northern California Monday along with another evacuee who tested negative for the virus but then showed symptoms.

All travelers from mainland China being monitored for coronavirus in L.A. County

Los Angeles County public health nurses are closely monitoring all residents who have recently traveled to mainland China, regardless of whether they have any symptoms of the new strain of coronavirus, according to the county’s top health official.

More than 1,000 people have been assigned a public health nurse and asked to self-isolate and not to go to work or school for 14 days, Department of Public Health director Barbara Ferrer told the Board of Supervisors on Monday.

Palo Alto Woman Ready To Return Home After Coronavirus Quarantine

SANTA CLARA COUNTY (CBS SF) — A Palo Alto woman who has been quarantined on a southern California U.S. military base for nearly two weeks after leaving Wuhan amid the coronavirus outbreak is scheduled to return home on Tuesday morning.

“My family, I really can’t wait to be reunited with them, I just want to give them big hugs,” Esther Tebeka said through a video phone interview.

The number of those infected now stands at 43,090 worldwide, with the death toll totaling a little more than 1,000 people.

International visitor with measles infects 4 L.A. County residents

Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials Wednesday confirmed measles cases in four residents after an unimmunized international traveler visited the area.

“For those who are not protected, measles is a highly contagious and potentially severe disease that initially causes fever, cough, red, watery eyes and, finally, a rash,” Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said in a statement.

Those at risk should check their immunization records and contact a healthcare provider about potential exposure if not protected. Officials recommend watching for a rash or fever, and if symptoms develop, staying home and calling a healthcare provider.

Ninth US case confirmed in California as White House studies economic impact of coronavirus outbreak

The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus worldwide is now 14,557, most of which are in China, according to World Health Organization (WHO) data. The death toll has risen to at least 304. A 44-year-old man in the Philippines died of the virus on Saturday, making him the first reported death outside of China. All territories and provinces in China have now been impacted by the virus.

5:00 pm: Santa Clara County reports ninth US case of coronavirus

The ninth U.S. case of coronavirus was confirmed in Santa Clara County on Sunday. It’s the second case in the San Francisco Bay area. The case is in a woman who was recently in Wuhan, China, and visited the U.S. to see family on Jan 23, according to the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department.
