Drunk Driver Arrested After Erratic Episode At Restaurant

At about 10:23pm Monday, Turlock Police responded to a trespass in progress at Applebee’s in the 2500 block of Fulkerth Road.

The caller reported that a man was sitting in a booth ordering food, saying he couldn’t pay for it. He was also trying to go into the kitchen with his small dog, mumbling to himself.

Stanislaus area has a shortage of childcare services. What’s the county doing to help?

The mission of Stanislaus 2030 includes bolstering job opportunities, yet a significant obstacle lies in the shortage of childcare services within the county. To fulfill the demands of the workforce, the county needs to create an additional 36,000 childcare slots. The need is greater for more rural areas with higher Latino populations.

Nurture, a nonprofit organization committed to fostering in-home childcare entrepreneurship, partnered with Stanislaus 2030, the comprehensive plan to boost the county’s economic potential, to establish a pilot program. It tackles the deficit of childcare by helping individuals establish such businesses.

Limited housing options leave Stanislaus County residents in substandard living conditions

During the pandemic, Desiree Ransom and her then-4-year-old son woke up each morning with sore throats, stuffy noses and a persistent cough. The reason: black mold in their Modesto duplex.

After a year of unanswered complaints, her landlord finally addressed the mold issue. Her rent was then raised by $250, forcing her to move out.

“I was never late on rent, [and the landlord] never had any complaints about me or from me until I found the mold,” Ransom, 36, said.

Teenager arrested after death of Turlock High School basketball coach

A teenager was recently arrested in connection to a fatal car accident that claimed the life of the Turlock High School basketball coach last year .

“The Turlock High School and TUSD community is profoundly saddened by the loss of John Williams,” Turlock Unified School District said in a press release on Dec. 31, 2023. “John was a beloved basketball coach for 20+ years for the Bulldogs and touched the lives of countless athletes and their families.”

Turlock police pursuit on Highway 99 ends in collision, injuries and arrest at gunpoint

A police pursuit in Turlock ended in a collision with a guns-drawn arrest on Wednesday morning, according to officials.

Robert James Hernandez, 39, was arrested at gunpoint near Main Street at Highway 99 at about 8 a.m. on suspicion of 17 different charges including: evading police, felony possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of meth for sale and carrying a stolen loaded firearm.

Ex-Meta engineer shoots wife, 4-year-old twins in murder-suicide at their $2.1M Bay Area home

A former Meta engineer, his data scientist wife and their two 4-year-old twins were found dead inside their $2.1 million California home in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide.

Anand Sujith Henry, 37, allegedly killed his sons and fatally shot his wife, Alice Benzinger, 38, in a bathtub before turning the gun on himself, sources told KTVU.
