Stockton home with 11 people inside, including 5 children, shot; investigation underway

No one was injured after a home with 11 people inside, including five children, was hit by gunfire in Stockton Saturday evening, the police department said.

Shortly after 4:45 p.m., police responded to the 2900 block of Stanfield Drive for a report of a shooting into an occupied home.

Motorcyclist killed in suspected DUI crash in Stanislaus County

Drunk driving is suspected to be a factor in a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Stanislaus County Saturday night, the CHP said.

The crash happened in the area of Crows Landing Road and Ehrich Road around 8 p.m. Saturday.

A 47-year-old man from Patterson was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado south at about 35 mph on Crows Landing Road and was approaching Ehrlich Road, the CHP said.

3 deaths caused by ‘tranq’/fentanyl mix confirmed in Stanislaus County. ‘Now it is here’

A mixture of the animal tranquilizer xylazine with street fentanyl has caused three overdose deaths in Stanislaus County, an official reported Thursday as the opioid crisis continues to get worse.

In the latest overdose data, released at Thursday’s Opioid Safety Coalition meeting, the county recorded 121 deaths due to fentanyl poisoning or overdoses in 2023, almost even with the 128 fentanyl deaths in 2022.

Details emerge about circumstances of crash that killed Turlock basketball coach

New details have helped form a clearer picture as to what led up to the collision that killed a beloved Turlock High School basketball coach on Dec. 29. But what exactly happened remains murky.

Johnathan Williams, 48, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital after a rollover crash near Pitman High School. Williams was formerly the girls varsity basketball head coach for Turlock High and was an assistant coach of both the varsity boys and girls teams at the time of his death.

Turlock’s ‘Greatest Baker’

Turlock High senior Gianna Roe is a teen with varied interests. She plays on the Bulldogs’ softball team and is active in the school’s FFA chapter. She’s also considering becoming a certified welder. However, it’s her interest in baking, something she’s been doing since she was old enough to hold a spoon, that has brought her the most recognition. 

“Ever since I was little, I liked helping my mom and my grandpa in the kitchen making cannoli and cookies,” said Roe.

Turlock residential fire displaces five, sends one to trauma center

A fire early Tuesday morning displaced several people who live on the 4100 block of Ivory Lane in Turlock, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded at about 12:30 a.m. and worked to knock down a fire at a single-family home.
