Man arrested within hours of paternal kidnapping Wednesday morning

On Wednesday, July 12th, 2023, at 11:18 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported disturbance at a residence in the 700 block of E Minnesota Ave, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene, they contacted the caller who told them that her estranged husband, Benjamin Chipponeri, 39, of Turlock, had arrived at her residence and entered it without her permission.

Tuolumne River park will get its first boat ramp by winter. It’s in west Modesto

The first-ever boat ramp in Tuolumne River Regional Park could begin launching watercraft by year’s end.

It will be built in a west Modesto stretch of the park under a $1.79 million contract approved July 11 by the City Council.

Modesto cracks down on vehicle sideshows. Drivers and spectators can face these fines

New fines for people involved in vehicle sideshows won approval from the Modesto City Council.

It voted 7-0 on Tuesday, July 11, to fine drivers and passengers up to $3,500 for taking part in these displays of speed and stunts. People who organize or promote sideshows could pay as much as $3,000. Those who just watch could be fined up to $2,500.

California kicks in another $40 million to extend ACE to Turlock. When will 1st train run?

The Altamont Corrdor Express has received a $40 million state grant toward the Ceres-to-Turlock leg of its expansion.

The money will go to double-tracking and other upgrades aimed at opening this rail stretch to passengers by 2029.

Money Magazine Rates Stanislaus State University in Turlock Among Best Colleges in America

Finance publication MONEY has released its 2023 college ratings and once again named Stanislaus State among the “Best Colleges in America.”  

Using a new star rating system that replaces its traditional numerical ranking, MONEY gave Stanislaus State 4.5 out of 5 stars, which places the University among the top third of the 736 four-year public and private colleges from across the nation that made the cut.

Jessica’s House founder, therapist to author book

Jessica’s House founding director Erin Nelson and the nonprofit’s director of outreach and education Colleen E. Montague will be sharing their insights in operating the successful grief support organization in a new book.

Jessica’s House was established in Turlock in 2012 to provide grief support for local children and families. The book, which is expected to be released by Baker Books in the spring of 2025, will include perspectives from Nelson regarding her personal losses.

Turlock man convicted of killing driver in DUI accident after speeding through intersection

A Turlock man faces up to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of killing a driver after speeding through an intersection and leaving the scene.

According to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, a jury found 41-year-old Daniel Allen Coats guilty of killing 55-year-old Jose Manuel Mora. Coats was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit and run, and driving on a suspended license.

House catches fire while illegal fireworks were still being launched early Wednesday morning

On Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, at 1:15 am, the Turlock Fire Department, Modesto Fire Department, Turlock Police Department, Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported structure fire at a residence in the 800 block of N Berkeley Ave, Turlock.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy fire involvement from a single-story single-family dwelling that appeared to be vacant and under construction.

34-year-old woman shot, killed in Modesto, officials say

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a woman was shot and killed in south Modesto.

Officials said 34-year-old Natasha Irizarry, of Ceres, died from her injuries despite lifesaving efforts.
