Man arrested after being caught cutting into engine block of stolen vehicle Wednesday morning

On Wednesday, June 21st, 2023, at 9:15 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported suspicious vehicle at Pedretti Park, 2400 N Tegner Rd, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene, they found and contacted several subjects associated with three different vehicles, including a man later identified as Colin Craig, 39, of Turlock.

Stanislaus County Fair brings a bevy of musical entertainment

The Stanislaus County Fair has put together an entertainment lineup that will satisfy the music tastes of multitudes, with rock, country, R&B, and Latin acts set to take the stage during the fair’s run.

The Stanislaus County Fair 2023 concert line up will open with Platinum award winning Country artist Parmalee on July 7. The concert will be hosted by KAT COUNTRY 103.3.

Body found in Tuolumne River in west Modesto. Police are investigating

Modesto police are investigating after a body was found in the Tuolumne River between Neece Drive and Highway 99 in west Modesto.

A fisherman spotted the body near the north shore just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, said Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear.

Two men arrested after stealing makeup from department store Monday afternoon

On Monday, June 19th, 2023, at 2:15 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported shoplifting that had just occurred at Kohl’s, 2751 Countryside Dr, Turlock, after two men had exited the business with a duffle bag full of makeup that they hadn’t paid for.

While officers were responding, they were informed that the men had gotten into a 2007 Toyota Sienna that was leaving the parking lot.

West Nile Virus detected in Stanislaus County

The Turlock Mosquito Abatement District and the East Side Mosquito Abatement District have both confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus in Stanislaus County, but has of yet there have been no human cases.

The Turlock Mosquito Abatement District has found the virus in one mosquito sample as of June 12.

Local unemployment rates remain stagnant in May

The State of California’s Employee Development Department released its month labor report this week, and the statistics show that unemployment rates in the region had little movement during the month of May. It comes as California and the United States have seen slight rises in unemployment rates.

In Stanislaus County, the unemployment rose slightly from 6.2% in April to 6.4% in May, representing approximately 15,600 individuals.

One dead, father and child injured in wrong-way crash on Highway 99 in Turlock

A man was killed and two others, including a child, were injured in a wrong-way driving collision on Highway 99 in Turlock early Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred at 3:17 a.m. north of Lander Avenue. A man in a white sedan was driving south in the northbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Stanislaus County’s first-ever Filipino food truck has opened in Modesto, bringing more of the rich flavors of the southeast Asian nation to the Valley.

The new food trailer, Filipino Corner , opened June 11 at the corner of McHenry Avenue and Meily Way in north Modesto. The small space serves up big, authentic flavors from two church friends who saw an opportunity in the region.

Man kidnapped woman from Stanislaus County home at gunpoint, sheriff’s office says

A 22-year-old man who kidnapped a woman at gunpoint at a home in Turlock was arrested after a high-speed chase, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said.

Angel Primitivo Garcia is accused of forcing entry into the home of a woman with whom he used to be in a relationship on S Morgan Road on Sunday. He allegedly hit a child with a gun and threatened other people in the home before dragging the woman out into his car.

Crews battle 2-alarm grass fire along American River in Sacramento

Firefighters are working to extinguish a two-alarm grass fire along the American River Parkway in Sacramento, fire officials said.

Flames first broke out around 1:27 p.m. Saturday near the 1400 block of Northgate Boulevard. The fire is a half-acre in size.
