Crash at Coffee Rd, Sylvan Meadows Dr Hospitalizes One in Modesto

A crash at the intersection of Coffee Road and Sylvan Meadows Drive on Monday, May 20, 2024, resulted in major injuries, according to ABC10.

Around 3:45 PM, Modesto Police Department officers responded to reports of the accident and found one individual suffering from major injuries. Emergency services were on the scene to provide immediate medical assistance and transport the injured person to a local hospital for further treatment.

Turlock man sentenced for killing neighbor, setting car on fire

A Turlock man was sentenced on Wednesday to 51 years to life in prison for the murder of his neighbor in 2016, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney.

Officials said 37-year-old Ricardo Rios killed Pedro Ruiz by stabbing him over 100 times, later dumping his body in an orchard.

Pair Of Weekend Fires

There were a couple of fires of note in the region as temperatures are rising this season.

There was a 20 by 20 ft. vegetation fire near the south entrance of the Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp on Sunday afternoon shortly before one o’clock. The forward progress was quickly stopped. The cause was not immediately released.

Modesto sees 4 suspected fentanyl overdose deaths in 12-hour period

Four people died in suspected fentanyl overdoses in four different areas of Modesto. And it all happened in a 12-hour period.

"When we have this number of deaths in such a short period, we don't think that that's just some random anomaly; we know that there's something which has suddenly changed," said Patrick Hogan, deputy district attorney for Stanislaus County.

At 37, Fimbres graduated with an associate’s degree in agricultural business from MJC and will start work on her bachelor’s degree at CSU Stanislaus in the fall.

Track athletes shine at divisional meets

For the second consecutive year, Turlock High School’s girls track and field program lifted a blue banner.

At the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 2 meet at Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks on Friday, the Lady Bulldogs claimed first in the team competition with a score of 114. Coming in second was Bella Vista High with a score of 66. On the boys side, Turlock settled for second with a score of 69 behind champion Bella Vista and their score of 92.
