7 million pills-worth of fentanyl seized by Turlock police

More than seven million pills-worth of fentanyl was found when Turlock police executed a search warrant leading to the arrest of 44-year-old resident Frank Romero, Thursday.

Police say they seized 24.75 pounds of the deadly drug — enough to potentially kill more than five million people — from a home in the 1000 block of West Avenue South.

Unfolding Tragedy: Fatal Alameda County Crash Points to Suspects in Manteca Murder

Police suspect that the deaths of two men in a fiery car crash in Alameda County may be connected to the killing of a woman in Manteca. The sequence of violent events began on Sunday evening when a woman was shot outside a strip mall on West Yosemite Avenue in Manteca. Law enforcement arrived at the scene around 10 p.m. and found the injured woman seeking help in one of the businesses.

Human trafficking suspect arrested at Ceres motel

A Patterson man previously arrested in Turlock for human trafficking was apprehended again on June 6 – this time in Ceres – for allegedly trafficking the same victim, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect, Alex Santana, 24, was in possession of a loaded firearm when he was arrested outside a Ceres motel. He made an attempt to flee from detectives but was quickly apprehended after his shoe fell off.

Family, friends gather to remember teen killed in stabbing

The gathering that brought Dylan Dooling’s family and friends together to reflect on his achievements and character should’ve been a graduation party. Instead, it was a vigil that brought them all together in a shared grief as they grapple with the violent act that took his life. 

Around 10:45 p.m. on June 2, Dooling and his girlfriend were leaving a house party in the 2000 block of N. Daubenberger Road when they were confronted by a group of males, possibly three, and a physical fight broke out.

Free bus rides in July

The Stanislaus Regional Transit Authority (StanRTA), City of Turlock (Turlock Transit) and Transit Joint Powers Authority for Merced County (The Bus) announced today that all rides on all fixed-route, commuter, and ADA Paratransit buses will be free for passengers during July as part of a joint free-ride promotion. This includes local fixed-route services as well as ACE, BART, and Stockton Commuter bus services, The Micro Bus in Merced County, ADA Paratransit, and Medivan, but excludes Turlock Transit’s On-Demand Service.

Body camera footage released after fatal police shooting of 14-year-old in Colorado

Police in Aurora, Colorado, have released body camera footage following the death of a teenager who was shot by an officer after an alleged robbery.

Jor'Dell Richardson, who is Black, was shot by an officer who chased him as he ran from a local store where police say he shoplifted vape materials with a group of youths on June 1. He was 14 years old.

Walking down Main Street in Turlock on Saturdays during the weekly Turlock Certified Farmers Market, you may sense the smell of eggs and toast in the air. You may also notice that things look a bit lonelier behind the table of popular microgreens stand Drake’s Greens.

This year at the Farmers Market, Drake’s Greens cofounder and co-owner Michelle Green has expanded her reach in downtown by opening the Freckled Gem Café, serving up coffee, gelato, paninis, avocado toast, biscuits and a variety of other breakfast sandwiches. She is located right beside her husband, Sedric, who continues to manage the Drake’s Greens table.

Hawk teammates Ryan Estermann, Fernando Dominguez, Garret Garcia and Diego Delahoya were recognized during the Central California Conference’s year-end head coaches’ meeting at Geneo’s Pizza in Livingston on May 8.

Atwater Feed store engulfed in flames, authorities say

A well-known business in Atwater became engulfed in flames early Sunday morning, authorities in Atwater say.

The Atwater Police Department says its officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Atwater Boulevard just after 1:00 a.m. where they say they arrived to find the Atwater Feed store on fire.
