Bicyclist arrested after shootout with Modesto police officer during chase

A bicyclist who fled a traffic stop was arrested after a shootout with a police officer in Modesto on Saturday night, authorities said Sunday.

The Modesto Police Department identified the suspect as 29-year-old Gordon Massey, who is from the city.

WASHINGTON STATE SPRINTER Louie Hinchliffe (pictured on the front page with this story), competes in the NCAA Track and Field Championships this week in the 100-meter dash in Austin, Texas, (June 7-10). At the NCAA West Preliminary Round this past week, Hinchliffe -- only a freshman -- tied the WSU track and field program record with a blazing 10.17 time in the 100M (Anson Henry, 2002). Hinchliffe already owns the WSU freshman records in the 60M and 100M, and now takes aim at the top of the record books.

Turlock teen killed in stabbing while leaving house party, police say

A 17-year-old was killed in a stabbing while leaving a house party late Friday night, Turlock Police say.

Friends of the teen called 911 around 10:46 p.m. Friday and told police that someone had been stabbed in the 2000 block of Daubenberger Road. When officers got to the area, they found the 17-year-old on the sidewalk and began administering CPR.

Annual survey finds more homeless in Turlock, county

As the Turlock City Council continues to debate the best way to spend funding to address the homeless crisis, the annual point-in-time survey results were released finding an increase in homeless individuals living in Turlock, as well as an increase throughout Stanislaus County as a whole.

Every winter the Stanislaus Community System of Care conducts a point-in-time count one day in January where volunteers scour the county taking a physical census of the number of homeless individuals in each city and surrounding areas.

Turlock police investigating series of paintball attacks on bicyclists and pedestrians

Mitch Boehs was on his weekly bicycle ride with friends on Monte Vista Avenue in Turlock on Wednesday evening when he heard a series of pops and felt a sting in his left arm.

“I looked to the side, then I saw a guy leaning out the window of the car with a gun in his hand, shooting at us,” Boehs said.

Motorcyclist killed in weekend crash near Modesto identified

A motorcyclist who died in a crash southwest of Modesto on Friday night has been identified as a Keyes man.

Esteban Diaz, 38, was riding a Yamaha north on Shiloh Road, south of Paradise Road, when he drifted off the east side of the road around 11:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
