Barricaded man arrested after domestic violence call in Turlock

The Turlock Police Department said an area with police activity Tuesday morning is now safe.

Officers say they were responding to a domestic violence incident in the 1300 block of Shady Lane when a man barricaded himself.

Showing Turlock the Love

A group of local broistas (the term for those who serve coffee and other drinks at Dutch Bros Coffee) put down their coffee beans and blenders on Saturday and picked up paint brushes to renovate a home on Vermont Avenue that is used by the We Care Program of Turlock as transitioning housing for those who were homeless.

They were just a few of the approximately 500 volunteers who dispersed across town to do good on Saturday as part of the Love Turlock event.

Bicyclist dies after being hit by train in Turlock

A bicyclist died after being hit by a train in Turlock, the Turlock Police Department said Thursday.

The crash happened Wednesday night around 8 p.m. on East Main Street and the railroad tracks. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been hit from behind as he biked across the railroad tracks while the railroad arms were down. The man was taken to a hospital where he died.

Local couple offers motivation through clothes and social media trend

If you’re a member of the Turlock Planet Fitness or have gone out to eat at Elvia’s Tacos or David’z Tacos recently, you may have seen a group of people flexing their muscles while posing for photos and videos. If it looked like a new social media trend to you, you’re on the right track.

The folks behind this trend are Daniel Galvan Zuniga and Cess Navarro. And not only are they posing in front of cameras and posting on Instagram, but they’re also promoting their own clothing brand.

Woman trespassing at high school arrested after resisting officers Friday morning

On Friday, April 28th, 2023, at 6:33 am, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported trespass in progress at Pitman High School, 2525 W Christoffersen Pkwy, Turock, where a woman in front of the front office was refusing to leave and becoming belligerent with staff.

When officers arrived on scene, the woman, later identified as Lakiesha Barkus, 38, of Palo Alto, briefly left, however, returned back onto campus from a different spot.

Woman robs grocery store and uses children to aid in her escape Wednesday night

On Wednesday, April 26th, 2023, at 8:30 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported robbery that had just occurred at Walmart Neighborhood Market, 2480 Geer Rd, Turlock.

When officers arrived on scene, they contacted employees who stated that they saw a woman leaving the business with a shopping cart full of unpaid merchandise, so one of them confronted her.

Stanislaus Coroner’s Office looking for family of Modesto woman found in canal

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office is looking for the family of a Modesto woman who was found in an irrigation canal last month.

Fannie Holmes, 71, was found March 27 in the canal near the bridge that connects the Virginia Corridor Trail to Stoddard Avenue. There were about three inches of rainwater in the canal.

This vacant Turlock field soon will help turn food waste into renewable energy for homes

An empty alfalfa field in west Turlock soon will be transformed into a high-tech facility that turns food waste into renewable fuel.

State and local dignitaries gathered on West Main Street for the groundbreaking of the newest Divert food waste recovery plant. The company turns unsold food from supermarkets, retailers, restaurants and manufacturers into natural gas that can be used to power homes and businesses.
