Oregon has multiple champions, numerous finalists at prestigious Reno Worlds wrestling meet

Eleven Oregon high school wrestlers reached the finals last weekend at the 2023 World of Wrestling Reno Worlds, one of the top postseason tournaments on the West Coast.

West Albany senior Ariana Martinez, who capped a 45-0 high school season by winning a second state title at OSAA 6A/5A Girls 115 pounds, won the 18U 118 division in sudden-victory overtime, earning a 6-4 decision against Hawaii’s Kalina Hotema.

What is fusion pizza? First Modesto site opens for national chain pumping up its pie flavors

Already one of the most universally beloved foods across all ages, pizza is getting an extra twist at one of Modesto’s newest restaurants.

Northeast Modesto’s Pizza Twist offers traditional and fusion pies, combining Indian and other flavors. The restaurant had its soft opening in February in The Marketplace shopping center at the corner of Oakdale Road and Sylvan Avenue, the same complex as the city’s flagship Save Mart supermarket.

Cyclist dies after being struck by train in Turlock

 A man died in Turlock on Thursday after being struck by a northbound train while riding his bike, according to the Turlock Police Department.

Police found the man at East Main Street and learned that he was struck from behind while crossing the railroad tracks when the crossing arms were down.

People around the world may not know where Turlock, California is, but “American Idol” viewers now have heard the city’s name at least twice as another Central Valley native has heard “yes” from enough judges to make it on the show.

Pitman High graduate Sarah Snyder, 27, impressed pop star Katy Perry, singer-songwriter Lionel Richie and country singer Luke Bryan enough to get the “golden ticket” to Hollywood and also make it through to the showstopper performance round. The showstopper’s first part airs Easter Sunday, and part two is Monday.

Hughson woman on motorcycle killed in Highway 99 crash near Keyes

A Hughson woman riding a motorcycle north on highway 99 died in a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was shortly before 8 a.m. and just north of the Keyes Road on-ramp.

Construction worker buried alive, saved by crew and firefighters in west Modesto

A construction worker was standing above a 30-foot trench in west Modesto where a sewer system is being installed when the earth beneath him gave way Friday morning.

The man, who is in his 60s, fell nearly 30 feet and several feet of dirt piled on top of him, said Modesto Fire Department Battalion Chief Ed Bartley.
