Modesto opens new Tuolumne River boat ramp in style. See how many paddlers turned out

Paddlers came in kayaks and canoes and a 25-foot mock-up of a Viking boat to christen Modesto’s new launch ramp on the Tuolumne River.

It opened Friday off Neece Drive in west Modesto, which has lacked easy connections to the river that runs past it. This is the first paved ramp in Tuolumne River Regional Park, which stretches about 7 miles between the Mitchell Road and Carpenter Road bridges.

Dust Bowl Brewing Co. Celebrates Fifteenth Anniversary

After a decade and a half of growth, the Central Valley craft beer innovator has a lineup of promotions and parties to recognize the milestone and say cheers to its dedicated beer fans.

“It’s hard to believe we’ve been at this for fifteen years,” shares Founder and Owner, Brett Tate. “So much has changed for our brewery as well as the Central Valley craft beer industry since we first started brewing in ’09.

Two drownings lead to closing of local rivers

The area’s lakes, rivers and streams will pose a tempting relief to the rising temperatures but emergency responders are warning that a quick dip could have hidden dangers for swimmers.

On Monday, Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke issued an order to close the Merced River and San Joaquin River for recreational use. The order comes in the wake of two recent drownings and affects all access areas throughout Merced County.

A Modesto Jack in the Box employee is recovering from wounds they received during a stabbing on Monday morning, according to the Modesto Police Department.

Sometime around 11 a.m., calls came in about an assault at the fast food restaurant after an encounter between an employee and an unknown person, police said.

Turlock, CA – Possible Injuries in Car Crash on Golden State Blvd

 A car crash early Thursday morning on Golden State Blvd near the 2800 block led to possible injuries. The incident occurred around 7:26 a.m., involving at least one vehicle.

Emergency services were called to the scene promptly. Reports confirmed at least one person was trapped inside a vehicle. The cause of the crash remains unknown.

Police body camera video released of April incident where Turlock officer shot suspect

Police have now released the body camera footage of an April incident in Turlock where officers shot a suspect.

The incident happened April 10 along the 900 block of Vermont Avenue.

Officers had responded to a report of a suspicious person looking into vehicles. That suspect – later identified as 37-year-old Turlock resident Corey Pollard – then ran when an officer tried to approach him, police say.
