Sustainable seafood restaurant Coho comes to Mill Valley

The January opening of Coho in Mill Valley provides Marin County with its first fine-dining level establishment that is almost exclusively dedicated to sustainable seafood and seasonal veggies.

Espousing mindful, sustainable, local-sourcing practices is nothing new on Marin menus, but thus far, a lineup fully devoted to seafood has been more prominent in the fast-casual arena (Fish in Sausalito and Hook Fish in Tam Valley) and to restaurants on the banks of Tomales Bay.

County invests $650K to grow bio-industrial manufacturing jobs

The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday spent the first of what potentially will be a $10 million investment in bringing bio-industry manufacturing operations to the region.

The five-member board voted unanimously to allocate $650,000 to support the formation and operations of BEAM Circular, an organization that will serve as the tip of the spear in an effort to reimagine and reinvigorate the local economy.

Four strangers hopped into a silver Chevy Trailblazer at 8 a.m. Thursday and headed west. Their destination was a strip mall off North Carpenter Road and Highway 132.

Tiffany Ornells sat shotgun, wearing a blue coat, gloves and sunglasses. She was ready to spend hours walking in the cold. Sitting in the back seats, Matt Orante and Linnea Worthy bonded over their dogs.

911 lines working in Turlock after being down

The Turlock Police Department said Friday morning that 911 lines are back up and working after being down in the area.

"The TPD Communications Center experienced an issue with AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile Wireless customers that were receiving fast busy signals when attempting to dial 9-1-1," the police department wrote on social media.

Turlock nightlife strong after back-to-back deadly incidents. How safe do patrons feel?

Deadly violence earlier this month in downtown Turlock didn’t appear to cut much into the nightlife scene last weekend. And from person to person asked, it wasn’t top of mind, if on their mind at all.

“I totally forgot about the shootings,” Stephanie Smith, 57, said as she and her husband Dennis, 61, were leaving Memo’s Cocina & Tequila Bar on Friday night, Jan. 20. Smith’s 25-year-old son’s girlfriend was the one who told her about the recent violence in the area.

California does not track groundwater banking—but projects tapping flood flows show promise

The state does not have a mechanism for tracking the amount of floodwater that water managers and landowners are diverting to groundwater recharge projects. But the looming threat of groundwater regulations has propelled a new race to grab more water in the wet years to prepare for the dry years.

When Ralph Shabazian learned about the Armenian Studies Program at Fresno State in early 2016, he knew he wanted to be a part of helping students explore their heritage to help share the Armenian story.

Mr. Shabazian never learned the Armenian language. However, he had a keen interest in the history and culture of his people and was proud of his Armenian heritage. He wanted to help make it possible for students of Armenian descent to pursue their education, especially learning about their Armenian heritage, their country’s history, culture, art, music, and language.

One Arrested, Police Seek Info from Public in Fatal Market & South Broadway Shooting

Police in Turlock have opened an investigation into a recent fatal shooting, according to a department media release.

Around 2 AM on Saturday, January 14th, officers responded to the area of Market and South Broadway downtown for a report of a shooting and found evidence that corroborated this report, as well as evidence that at least one person had been struck by gunfire, but no individuals remained at the scene.

Abundant rain = good irrigation season
