As temps drop, warming centers open

With more rain projected this weekend and overnight temperatures expected to dip into the low 30s next week, the county has opened designated warming zones across the county.

In Turlock, warming zones are open at the Roger K. Fall Transit Center, 1418 N. Golden State Blvd; the Turlock Public Library, 550 N. Minaret Ave.; and the Turlock Gospel Mission, 437 S. Broadway.

Turlock police report a 16-year-old was shot Friday night. He was treated and released

Turlock police are reporting that a 16-year-old boy suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound Friday night. The teen was treated and released at a hospital.

Police responded about 8 p.m. to a report of a gunshot at a gas station near Golden State Boulevard and Olive Avenue. Police said the 16-year-old and others did not cooperate with officers.

Election results are in. Who’s representing San Joaquin County, Stockton Unified?

The San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters has finished counting ballots and official election results are in. 

The 2022 general election drew 46.5% voter turnout from San Joaquin County’s 385,679 registered voters. Most chose to vote by mail, with just 16,449 people ― 4% ― choosing to vote in-person at a polling place.

Santa set to roll through Turlock

Santa Claus will once again be coming to town during the leadup to Christmas as he is joining forces with Turlock Fire Incorporated to bring back the popular Santa Firetruck. Beginning Saturday, the Santa Firetruck will make the rounds into Turlock neighborhoods, bringing holiday joy to residents.

Turlock Fire Capt. Frank Saldivar has overseen the Santa Firetruck program since he joined Turlock Fire over 30 years ago. He explained that the cis run and funded entirely through firefighters, and that it’s something that everyone looks forward to.

Fatal Bicycle Crash on State Route 120

The CHP Sonora area office reported a fatal bicycle crash on State Route 120 just east of Knights Ferry on the morning of Friday, November 25, 2022. The car vs. bicycle accident occurred at approximately 10:40 a.m. on SR-120 in the vicinity of Tulloch Dam Road and involved a 2005 Subaru, officials said.

Honor Flight invites Gold Star families to nation’s capital

The invitation was too good to pass up.

Diana and Salvador Pleitez of Fallon received an invitation to travel on an Honor Flight Nevada trip earlier this month to Washington, D.C. with other Gold Star families and Vietnam War veterans. They felt the camaraderie and talking to like-minded Gold Star families would also be therapeutic for the four-day trip.

Modesto bicyclist riding along highway near Knights Ferry dies in collision

A 67-year-old man from Modesto who was bicycling along Highway 120 a few miles east of Knights Ferry on Friday morning died after turning into the path of a car and being struck, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Sonora-area office.

The collision happened at about 10:40 a.m., according to the CHP’s online CHP Traffic Incident Information Page.
