California gas refund payments are arriving soon. See if you’re eligible

Californians who qualify for the state's gas price relief program should start to see their payments in the next few weeks.

The $9.5 billion tax refund will provide one-time payments of up to $1,050. Gov. Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers reached a deal for the refunds back in June, when gas prices were shattering records at or above $7 a gallon.

Turlock man suspected of pimping and pandering 6 women. There could be more victims

A Turlock man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of six counts of pimping and pandering, and the investigation into possible human trafficking is ongoing.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Erich Layton said detectives, during the course of a six-week investigation, identified six victims. He said detectives believe there are more victims who have not yet been identified.

Music festival, cannabis expo in Turlock featuring Wiz Khalifa and E-40 canceled

TURLOCK, Calif. (KTXL) — A music festival and cannabis expo set to take place in Turlock was canceled a day before it was supposed to start. 

Dazed on the Green organizers said the cancellation was due to a health and safety “significant risk.”

MAN ARRESTED AFTER ATTEMPTING TO ROB DISCOUNT STORE TUESDAY NIGHT

On Tuesday, September 13th, 2022, at 8:12 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported robbery that had just occurred at Dollar Tree, 1320 W Main St, Turlock.

Officers arrived on scene and learned that a man, later identified as Larry Spurlock, 61, of Turlock, had entered the business with a bandana covering his face and approached the cashier.

Two of three suspects in fatal Turlock stabbing now in custody

On Monday, hours after identifying two additional suspects in a fatal stabbing that occurred early Friday, Turlock police had one of them in custody.

One of the three suspects, Manuel Maldonado, 29, of Turlock, had been captured Friday. Midafternoon Monday, police said in a news release that they’d identified the two other men involved as Alfonso Garcia, 23, and David Rivera Cruz, 30, both of Turlock.

Fire breaks out at Stanislaus County Fair building. Cause under investigation

An early morning fire broke out in a structure at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, damaging one of the fair buildings.

At around 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, Modesto firefighters were dispatched to what was initially reported as a “tent fire” on the 800 block of Soderquist Road at the fairgrounds, according to the department’s daily incident report.

Stanislaus County is rolling back response to COVID-19. Flu season could pack a punch

Stanislaus County public health officials are unwinding their response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as hospitals and the community are no longer seeing a severe disease impact from the virus.

Dr. Julie Vaishampayan, county public health officer, said the public health division will discontinue bed polling at hospitals and take other steps to return responsibility for testing and treatment of COVID-19 patients back to private healthcare providers.

The Infamous Kando arrested on misdemeanor warrant after causing disturbance at family member’s residence Saturday evening

On Saturday, September 10th, 2022, at 5:07 pm, the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to a reported disturbance in progress at Western View Mobile Ranch, 1400 N Tully Rd, Turlock.

As officers were responding, they learned that the person who was causing the disturbance was the infamous Donald Kando, 43, of Turlock, and that he had a local misdemeanor warrant for trespassing and theft.
