Breeding ground for flies and black mold: See latest Stanislaus County health inspections

Trash bags and food items stored on the ground created a breeding ground for flies at a Turlock chicken wing restaurant, and black mold was spotted at a Modesto boba shop during health inspection in early April.

The majority of the 2,400 permitted food service establishments in the county receive two unannounced routine food safety inspections per year, according to the Department of Environmental Resources . The website says inspection reports are scanned weekly.

An investigation into an alleged food truck construction business ends with the owner behind bars, and at least 28 victims losing nearly $1 million in cash.

Investigators tell me it took them close to a year to build this case against 28-year-old Fernando Ochoa, the suspect who allegedly scammed over two dozen people.

Investigators say they wouldn't put this case in front of a judge unless they felt certain about it.

Man dies while swimming in California reservoir

Deputies have recovered the body of a 27-year-old man who was swimming at Woodward Reservoir on Sunday afternoon, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies responded to the area of Mountain View Point at Woodward Reservoir for a swimmer who was seen struggling and in distress shortly before 2 p.m.

Teenager killed in Turlock shooting, one other person was injured. Here’s what we know

in News

One person was killed, and one was injured in a shooting on the 700 block of Wayside Drive in Turlock on Tuesday, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The shooting happened at about 7 p.m. Officers with TPD were dispatched to an “assault with a deadly weapon call” and found two people with gunshot wounds, TPD spokesperson Dominique Sanchez said.

Grant helps Turlock Nursery School get spiffed up

Turlock Nursery School, the oldest such school in Turlock dating back to 1972, is getting a new look.

Turlock Nursery School received an $80,000 grant from the Marin Community Foundation and is using the funds for a new roof; fresh exterior paint; energy-efficient lighting and fans; play-structure repairs and upgrades; tree removal and replacement; and new sidewalks for improved accessibility and safety.

1 killed in Turlock double shooting, investigation underway

Turlock police are investigating a double shooting that left one dead and another hurt Tuesday evening, according to officials. 

The Turlock Police Department says they are investigating in the 700 block of Wayside Drive and have blocked off roads in the area. Wayside Drive is closed between Kenwood Avenue and N. Olive Avenue with no current estimated time of reopening.

Floating solar panel project in Merced County could save millions of gallons of water a year

FEDERAL AND STATE government officials journeyed to the western corner of Merced County earlier this month to announce a new project to place solar panels on the water in the Delta-Mendota Canal.

The project is part of a $19 million investment through President Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act announced by the Department of the Interior to install panels over irrigation canals in California, Oregon and Utah, with the aims of decreasing evaporation of critical water supplies and advancing clean energy goals.
