Turlock Police: Boy told homeless man to leave park, then stabbed him

TURLOCK, Calif. (KTXL) — Police said a homeless man was stabbed Tuesday afternoon in a Turlock park by a boy who now faces attempted homicide and hate crime charges.

Around 3 p.m., officers were called to Columbia Park and found the homeless man with stab wounds nearby, Turlock police reported.

TUSD reviewing emergency protocols after violent incident

Turlock Unified School District is currently working with an outside firm to review and update its district-wide emergency operations plan. After an incident involving a stabbing between two students, which Superintendent Dana Trevethan called “the recent unprecedented violence at Turlock High School,” TUSD wants the community to know they have protocols in place to keep students safe and are constantly reviewing to make sure they are effective.

Some of the safety measures that have already been instituted since the passage of bond Measures N and O include adding perimeter fences to control entry onto campuses; visitors must pass through the front office of each campus, and be approved before entering a campus.  They have also installed security cameras to investigate and understand when issues develop.

Emanuel Medical Center names new CEO

Emanuel Medical Center welcomes its third chief executive officer in four years, as the Turlock hospital announced the hiring of Murali Naidu, MD, FACS to the top administrative position.

Naidu assumed responsibility for all hospital operations, executive planning and directing medical services as of Nov. 15. He takes over for Warren Kirk, CEO of Doctors Medical Center and Tenet’s Northern California Group, who served as interim CEO for the past two months, following the resignation of Lani Dickinson.

Two dead in collisions on Highway 99 in Turlock

Two people lost their lives in two separate collisions on Highway 99 in Turlock on Sunday, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The first incident was a single vehicle collision reported at 2:30 a.m. Sunday on northbound Highway 99, north of W. Monte Vista Avenue.

The deceased was identified as Luis Rudolfo Mojarro, 29, of Galt by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

Gas prices soar in Turlock, statewide

California gas prices reached a record high this week, leaving local drivers feeling penny pinched at the pump. 

The cost of fuel in Turlock ranged from $4.37 to $4.85 per gallon as of Friday, the same day that AAA’s gas price monitor reported an average price of $4.70 per gallon statewide. The average represents yet another new record high for gas prices in California, up five cents from a week ago, almost 20 cents from a month ago and $1.53 cents more than this time last year. 

California’s average gas price is almost $1.30 more than the national average of $3.41 per gallon, and the average price in Stanislaus County is $4.61 per gallon.

Suspect leaves man bleeding, unresponsive in road rage incident

The Turlock Police Department is searching for a suspect who assaulted a man in an incident of road rage that left the victim unconscious, said the Turlock Police Department.

The incident began Tuesday night when the victim and the suspect were separately driving in the 2000 block of Geer Road and were nearly involved in a minor traffic collision.

Turlock band teacher arrested again, faces additional sex crime charges

A Turlock band teacher was arrested Thursday for a second time in connection with sex crimes he allegedly committed against two more former students, police said.

Daniel James Baudino, 38, first was arrested Nov. 1 after a former student accused him of sex crimes that allegedly occurred over a period of months in 2016.

Turlock police arrested him again Thursday afternoon in Merced. He was out of the Stanislaus County jail at the time after posting $150,000 bail.

Students forced to leave Turlock schools meeting because adults won’t wear masks

Students were forced to leave a meeting of the Turlock school trustees because some adults present — including a trustee — would not wear a mask.

On video from Tuesday’s meeting of Turlock Unified School District trustees, Board President Lori Carlson announces that because students are participating, the gathering is considered a school setting and all people in the room must wear a face mask. About 15 seconds passes, and adults remain unmasked; Carlson then tells the student representatives on the board that they must leave.

TUSD trustees consider making district map changes

Turlock Unified School District trustees started discussing possible revisions to the trustee area map, following data presented from the 2020 census.

Every 10 years with the U.S. Census, the school district is required to evaluate boundaries for trustee areas.

“The district has an obligation every 10 years to look at these boundaries and do something that is called redistricting,” said attorney Shawn VanWagenen at Tuesday’s board of trustees meeting. “Federal laws are really focused on antidiscrimination and preventing gerrymandering, what people like to call one person one vote. What we’re really looking for is making sure the trustee areas are proportioned to the population.”

OWEN MCDONALD KILLED IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH ON PEDRAS ROAD

A motorcycle crash on Pedras Road claimed the life of Owen McDonald killed Monday afternoon.

The deadly crash occurred around 4:20 PM when a Hyundai Accent driver attempted to make a left turn onto North Golden State from Pedras Road.
