Deputies break up sideshow at former airfield in Crows Landing. Merced man arrested

Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies broke up a large illegal sideshow at the former Crows Landing Naval Air Station on Sunday night and arrested one driver who fled at speeds over 100 mph, authorities said.

The department’s helicopter unit spotted about 200 vehicles at the airfield on Bell Road south of Patterson just before 7 p.m., said Sgt. Luke Schwartz.

Teen accused of making bombs for sale in Atwater

ATWATER, Calif. (FOX26) — A teen in Atwater is in custody after a search warrant was served at his home because he was suspected of making bombs.

It began when the Merced Sheriff's Department received a tip Sunday from the FBI that a 17-year-old boy was manufacturing and selling explosive devices from a home.

Man charged with elder abuse and vandalizing a patrol car in Merced County

DELHI, Calif. (FOX26) — Merced County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Sunday night after they say he assaulted an elderly man with a baseball bat.

Deputies were called to the 12000 block of Rose Lawn Avenue in Delhi for a domestic disturbance.

2 arrested in scheme to lure man onto boat, kill him and dump body overboard

The FBI on Thursday arrested a man in Fountain Valley and a woman in San Juan Capistrano, saying the pair lured a man onto a boat with the promise of a fishing trip in order to kill him over a debt he owed.

Hoang Xuan Le, 38, of Fountain Valley, is charged with first-degree murder, and Sheila Marie Ritze, 40, of San Juan Capistrano, is charged with being an accessory after the fact, authorities said.

The victim was duped into coming aboard a boat, the Sea Konig, in the Dana Point Harbor on Oct. 14 under the guise of an overnight lobster fishing trip, according to federal criminal complaints filed late Wednesday and unsealed Thursday.
