It’s a new year, baby! Stanislaus County medical centers report first births of 2023

Some Stanislaus County hospitals continued the tradition Sunday, Jan. 1, of announcing the first births of 2023.

Doctors Medical Center could share only limited information about the first baby born there — just that he was born at 12:18 a.m. He weighed in at 8 pounds, 2 ounces, and measured 19.5 inches long, according to Tenet Healthcare spokeswoman Krista Deans.

The Turlock father of a two-month old girl who died in April told a detective he repeatedly punched the infant in the head because she wouldn’t stop crying, according to testimony in Stanislaus Superior Court.

Following a preliminary hearing Wednesday, Judge Linda McFadden concluded there was enough evidence for Joseph Alexander Rendon, 24, to stand trial on the charges of murder and child abuse causing death.

Turlock mother with COVID-19 gives birth to healthy baby boy

TURLOCK, Calif. (KTXL) – With his mother infected with COVID-19, baby Sergio’s premature birth is nothing short of a miracle.

“He came in at 3 pounds, 11 ounces,” COVID-19 survivor Jeseenia Lizarraga told FOX40.

Sergio weighed-in small but tested negative for the novel coronavirus.

His journey home would take weeks. The same would be true for Lizarraga, who had been placed in a medically-induced coma.

“I did not know what the outcome was going to be,” recalled Lizarraga. “I don’t know what was going to happen with me. I didn’t know what was going to happen with the baby.”

TURLOCK, Calif. (KTXL) -- A newborn miraculously survived being thrown from a crash Sunday night in Turlock.

The California Highway Patrol says 6-week-old Ezra Benitez's family was driving their SUV south on Highway 99 and crashed near the Main Street exit, flipping several times before coming to a stop.

Ezra was found upside down in his car seat down the shoulder. He only had minor injuries.
