Fentanyl claimed the life of a Stanislaus County girl. Her sister keeps her memory alive

Isabella Marie Vivo would light up every room, was funny and energetic, family members said. She was a cheerleader for youth sports, played volleyball in middle school and sang the national anthem before Waterford High basketball games.

But tragedy struck Aug. 24, 2021, when the 14-year-old gathered with friends and they experimented with drugs. She became one of the 5,722 Californians who died that year from fentanyl poisoning.

Bicyclist dies after being hit by train in Turlock

A bicyclist died after being hit by a train in Turlock, the Turlock Police Department said Thursday.

The crash happened Wednesday night around 8 p.m. on East Main Street and the railroad tracks. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been hit from behind as he biked across the railroad tracks while the railroad arms were down. The man was taken to a hospital where he died.

Stanislaus Coroner’s Office looking for family of Modesto woman found in canal

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office is looking for the family of a Modesto woman who was found in an irrigation canal last month.

Fannie Holmes, 71, was found March 27 in the canal near the bridge that connects the Virginia Corridor Trail to Stoddard Avenue. There were about three inches of rainwater in the canal.

10-year-old dies after trampoline center fight in California

A 10-year-old boy died after a fight Thursday at a trampoline center in California’s Central Valley.

When reports first came out about the incident , officials said a boy, later identified as Anthony Duran, passed out while he was at the Rockin’ Jump trampoline center in Merced.

Waterford driver who died in suspected DUI crash identified. Three children were in the car

The Waterford driver who died in a suspected DUI-related crash with three children in the vehicle has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

Jose Munoz Jr., 25, was driving a Ford Mustang south on Ellenwood Drive, north of Waterford, with his 6-year-old son in the front seat and two 8-year-old nephews in the back seat, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Turlock man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday evening in the Westley area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at about 6:10 p.m. on Howard Road west of Stark Road.

Transient found deceased in vehicle Saturday afternoon

On Saturday, April 8th, 2023, at 12:17 pm, the Turlock Police Department, Turlock Fire Department, and American Medical Response were dispatched to a reported sick person at Pedretti Park, 2400 N Tegner Rd, Turlock, who was unresponsive inside a vehicle.

Paramedics were the first to arrive on scene and immediately declared Tommy Lantis, 69, of Turlock, deceased.

Cyclist dies after being struck by train in Turlock

 A man died in Turlock on Thursday after being struck by a northbound train while riding his bike, according to the Turlock Police Department.

Police found the man at East Main Street and learned that he was struck from behind while crossing the railroad tracks when the crossing arms were down.

Hughson woman on motorcycle killed in Highway 99 crash near Keyes

A Hughson woman riding a motorcycle north on highway 99 died in a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was shortly before 8 a.m. and just north of the Keyes Road on-ramp.

California police officer killed a person while driving 121 mph. DA declines to file charges

Stanislaus County sheriff’s Deputy Eric Fulmer was driving 121 mph as he approached a T-intersection on a foggy morning in January 2022.

At about the same time, a Chevrolet Camaro pulled into the intersection. Fulmer braked, but it was too late. His vehicle slammed into the side of the Camaro at nearly 90 mph, killing 21-year-old Saul Betancourt.
