Merced artist wins ‘Best of Show’ at Carnegie Showcase

From more than 200 entries, jurors have selected 88 works that will be on display in the annual Carnegie Art Showcase exhibition taking place this summer at the Carnegie Arts Center in Downtown Turlock.

The juried exhibition is a celebration of artistic excellence, awarding a total of $2,350 in prize money.

The show will be on view in the CAC’s Ferrari Gallery through Sept. 3.

During an artists reception and awards ceremony last Friday, Merced artist Eddie O. Rodriguez won “Best of Show” for his oil on panel painting entitled “Darkest Hour.”

Also, two Merced artists earned honorable mentions, including: Jennifer Fosgate for “Feather Flight,” a mixed media collage; and Kate Jackson for Kuhmiinn A’lkkwenne (Zuni – “Place of the Emergence of the People”), fluid acrylic on canvas.

From more than 200 entries, jurors have selected 88 works — including art from 10 Merced County artists — that will be on display in the annual Carnegie Art Showcase exhibition taking place this summer at the Carnegie Arts Center in Downtown Turlock.

The juried exhibition is a celebration of artistic excellence, awarding a total of $2,350 in prize money.

The show will be on view in the CAC’s Ferrari Gallery from July 5 through Sept. 3, and a free public reception will take place on Friday, July 8, from 6-8 p.m.

California Science Center breaks ground for new Endeavour space shuttle exhibit

LOS ANGELES, California (KCAL, KCBS) — A groundbreaking ceremony for a brand new exhibit dedicated to Endeavour, the well-known space shuttle that operated over the greater part of 20 years, took place at the California Science Center Wednesday.

Since 2012, the Endeavour has called the California Science Center in Exposition Park home, after it was retired in 2011. However, after more than 10 years, officials have decided to open a massive 200,000-square-foot exhibit for the shuttle.
