Modesto sees 4 suspected fentanyl overdose deaths in 12-hour period

Four people died in suspected fentanyl overdoses in four different areas of Modesto. And it all happened in a 12-hour period.

"When we have this number of deaths in such a short period, we don't think that that's just some random anomaly; we know that there's something which has suddenly changed," said Patrick Hogan, deputy district attorney for Stanislaus County.

Man Dies Of Suspected Overdose After Being Found Down In Bush

At about 4:05pm Tuesday, Turlock Police, Turlock Fire, and American Medical Response responded to an overdose at W. Main Street and S. First Street.

The caller reported there was a man possibly overdosing on fentanyl near the intersection.

Stanislaus County schools stock up on naloxone to combat rising fentanyl overdoses

in Health/School/Students

As Stanislaus County continues to see an increase in fentanyl use and overdoses, school districts are working to ensure students have access to the lifesaving medicine naloxone.

Naloxone, also packaged as Narcan or Evzio, is an opioid medication that is used to rapidly reverse an opioid overdose, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The FDA-approved medicine can reverse and block the effects of opioids including heroin, morphine, oxycodone and fentanyl.
