Track athletes shine at divisional meets

For the second consecutive year, Turlock High School’s girls track and field program lifted a blue banner.

At the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 2 meet at Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks on Friday, the Lady Bulldogs claimed first in the team competition with a score of 114. Coming in second was Bella Vista High with a score of 66. On the boys side, Turlock settled for second with a score of 69 behind champion Bella Vista and their score of 92.

Longtime Turlock High basketball coach returns to sidelines after two-year hiatus

When Doug Cornfoot gave up his position as Turlock High’s boys basketball coach, he thought he was done for good.

Cornfoot took over the basketball program in 2006 and for the next 15 seasons, led the Bulldogs to 229 wins, three Central California Conference championships, 12 playoff appearances and a trip to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I semifinals in 2010.

The Bee’s Top 25 high school football rankings after Granite Bay, Vacaville, Jesuit losses

Three weeks in to the high school football season and we’re certain of a few things: The Sierra Foothill League remains as good as advertised — same for Grant — and injuries will take a toll as they always do in this sport, at any level.

Even the powerhouse programs feel the aches and pains of battered shoulders, knees and ankles, but the best programs have depth.

High school football rankings: Multiple top teams to match up in key league games

There were wins all over the board last week as the area’s Top 10 went 8-1.

Area No. 7 Hilmar returns from a Week 8 bye and immediately plays the biggest Trans-Valley League game of the year Friday against No. 6 Hughson.
