Two Modesto men killed, three people injured in collision during Ceres police pursuit

Two Modesto men were killed and two were seriously injured during a pursuit of a vehicle by the Ceres Police Department on Thursday night, according to a California Highway Patrol release. A Hughson resident also suffered major injuries.

Osvaldo Calles, 20, and Fernando Barajas-Reyes, 20, both were ejected from a 2016 Ford Fusion when it collided with a 2016 Ford Mustang as it entered the intersection of Keyes Road and Geer Road at about 9 p.m., according to the CHP. The area is among farmland about four miles north of downtown Turlock.

A pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Tuesday that stretched into multiple counties and took a circuitous route through Turlock neighborhoods and downtown ended with a crash when the driver sped the car through the intersection at N. Soderquist Road and W. Canal Drive and hit another vehicle.

Both the suspect and the two people in the other vehicle were transported to area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

At about 8:47am Tuesday, Turlock Police responded to a larceny from a mailbox that had just occurred at Park Knolls Apartments in the 1100 block of Pedras Rd.

The caller reported that the suspect vehicle was a silver Mercedes-Benz driven by a young man.

Officer Marquez arrived in the area and located a matching vehicle near W. Monte Vista Avenue and N. Walnut Road. He attempted to make a traffic stop on it, but it took off from him and a pursuit ensued.

A police pursuit in Kern County Wednesday featured a suspect carjacking four vehicles, including a police cruiser, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old Juan Jose Galvez. The driver reportedly began in a silver Kia, continued in a Toyota Tacoma, then in a F5150 pickup truck, with the last vehicle being a CHP cruiser.

The chase began in the Palmdale area around 5 p.m. when the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Palmdale Station attempted to pull over the suspect and a female passenger, according to the LASD. He was suspected of driving recklessly and possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the LA County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
