Denair bests Turlock in fight over which district gets students from new development

in Local Roundup

The California State Board of Education unanimously sided with the Denair Unified School District on Wednesday in a boundary dispute involving the neighboring Turlock school district.

The issue dates to 2015, when developer Ron Katakis petitioned the Stanislaus County Office of Education to transfer about 91 acres from the Denair district to the Turlock Unified School District. Katakis envisions nearly 300 homes at the northwest corner of Tuolumne and Waring roads, which has been in the Denair district since the boundary lines were drawn many decades ago.

Public hearings were held in the fall of 2015 and a county commission unanimously voted in February 2016 to keep the property within the Denair district. Turlock appealed the decision, which finally was heard Wednesday in Sacramento by the 10-member State Board.

Public schools are reopening for business across America, meaning it’s time to get back to reading, writing, arithmetic ... and revolution.

It turns out Alvarado was educating the children about his own life. He declared he rejects the term “Mr.” and prefers to be addressed with the newfangled “Mx.,” pronounced “Mix.” A school official quickly put a stop to it, but the damage was done.

Why California student ID cards now include suicide prevention information

in Local Roundup

TURLOCK, Calif. — Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people ages ten to 24, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

More teenagers and young adults die from suicide than cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, flu and chronic lung disease, combined. The state of California has a plan to combat the problem, involving your student's school ID card.

"This is the right thing to do," said Gil Ogden, director of student services at the Turlock Unified School District.
